My last game was The Matrix Online, which I still play along with Pirates, due to Station Access.

If youve ever wanted to try it, there is a perma trial going on at the moment. Head over to MxO Space to get a buddy key.

I tried MxO right when they sold it to SoE. It was like CoH but with goofier players.

That was like AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS ago. There's been a number of changes to the game since those days.

Seriously, people should go check it out, for nothing other than morbid curiosity.

The Matrix Online: It's not just a game, it's a scary obsession which leads to mental breakdowns and flame wars :p

It's a great game. Give it a go.

Although I will admit, it's something of an acquired taste.

Are you saying it's free at the moment? I can't afford two MMOs at a time, but I'm always good with free ones.

A trial key gives 14 days free gameplay - aslong as you dont add a credit card.

If you find you like it, you can always get station access and play all SOE games (which includes pirates for $29)

That is an understatement. I have Station Access....so I have had MxO added for a while....I never really liked it....not my style of game. I found absolutely nothing to do but run around and beat the snot out of NPCs. I got bored. There was no crafting, no exploration to be done....Just go in...pretend you are Neo or Morpheus. Man...when I played I couldn't go 2 minutes without seeing a Neo, Morpheus, or Trinity clone...hehe

Misconceptions, I'm afraid. I was not understating my point at all.

There's a *lot* of crafting, and a *lot* of exploring. A long with an increasing amount of content. It might not be able to contend with the big boys like EQII, WoW, or even PotBS, but it's not down and out.

And, to be honest, if you run around pretending to be Neo or Morpheus, it's your own fault for playing the game that way. ;)

What are the points to the exploring and crafting? (Serious question, not dissing)

I tried it for a while last year, and I have to say it's actually one of the best, most underrated games out there. And I'm not even a big Matrix fan. I came in late, well after some significant changes and a server merge, but it was still far more enjoyable than many other games, including the 800 lb. gorilla. The community was, for the most part, fantastic. Weekly Live events, a continuing plot-line, neat fighting stuff, club-hopping, equipment crafting, strong RP elements.

The game is basically SOE's bastard stepchild, it gets no resources or publicity, and is tied to a tired and pretty much dead franchise, but is quitely doing everything right.

Yep, MxO another of SoE games which will never get an expansion lol.

I personally wouldn't ask anyone to try it because like its Sci-Fi film to game counterpart SWG its a massive letdown.

A lot of people seem to miss several facts.

MxO & Vanguard have not had a reason for an expansion. Population is low, income from those two games is also low.

PotBS is new, and not really ans SOE game.

SWG, EQ, EQ2...have all had multiple expansions.

Planetside has actually had an expansion.

SWG's biggest problem was not SOE at all. It was Julio Torres of Lucas Arts.

SWG's biggest problem was: "You wan b Jedi? You go shake booty at Cantina for 3 weeks. Then you wan learn teras kasi for 3 weeks. Now u almost Jedi. Now you wan b master droid engineeer. Good. Now u Jedi. Oh, ROFL HAR HAR. You just got eye shot from Bounty Hunter. You never JEdi again."

That's not to say SOE's innocent...but they are under contract...and Julio "I Kill Games For a Living" Torres did have a big hand in murdering SWG...and many other games (KotOR 2 is another big one he murdered)

CU was SOE trying to balance 32 professions while LA was breathing down their necks....NGE was all LA...trying to market the game more towards stealing FPS gamers and potentially trying to port the game to console. (The UI seemed perfect for a game controller)

That was one of the mistakes made by SOE...caving into the whiner populace...and LA breathing down their necks...a Star Wars game with no Jedi!!! That can't be!!

I liked it better with no Jedi......but I never once wanted Pre-CU to come back. Pre-CU was so full of bugs and exploits....it just wasn't fun....I can't express how ticked off I was when my Creature Handler got nerfed...to where I couldn't call 3 full grown Rancor...but an Imperial noob who bought faction off someone could go get 3 AT-STs and traipse around C-Net with all 3 out.

I played a long time ago for a little over a month. It was interesting, kind of fun, but I never got into it very much.
Though I just requested a key. I'll give it another go for the heck of it. :)

I was excited when I learned my architect could now become a jedi. So, I found a holocron and it said: Attain Grandmaster Entertainer. I /quit and cancelled my sub within 10 seconds of reading that.

Then again, KOTOR 2 was taking my time any way.

This question was about Matrix not SWG, so does anyone have an answer for Matrix please?

Crafting is the only way to get certain abilities and items/clothing/weapons etc.
