3 of us were out picking on the spanish, until they got together to take us out. 1 of us got jumped so me and the other guy turned to join and fight but another spainiard came along and attacked me spliting my group.
so instead of a fun 5 on 3 fight we got a 5 on 2 and a 1 on 1 in seperate battles. the guy that jumped me just ran so essentially i couldnt join my group for over 5 minutes... load screens then leaving the instance then pvp timer and couldnt see their fight when i exited.
i can see it as a very effective tactic to split groups but its really cheap and should be fixed so that i can only join the battle instance that my group mates are in.

The onlz way I can see this solved is by having an option to travel as a group, like you see with NPC convoys... though that would mean only the group leader would be in control on the OS. Or have all group mates in a certain radius on the OS automatically join a fight when one group mate attacks or is attacked. The latter might be exploitable though.
Otherwise, yeah... you got intercepted. Much like you would have in real life if your fleet was so dispersed. I see no big problem with it. Simply communicate with your group and have them stall as well untill you can get to them. It's not always practical, but that tactic the Spaniards used can be a double-edged sword...

an easy fix is once your group enters combat is the rest of the group gets the pvp/pve immunity flag but can enter the fight th group is already in.
as to us being scattered i was at about 15 miles from the first guy jumped just due to turning.. within 10 miles you are pulled into the fight. Traveling at full speed 15 miles is nothing.

As Tulor said. If you stick together you wont have this problem. You should be penalized for splitting up. It is a legitimate strat to divide and conquer.

thing is flares are busted atm. it's extremely risky to do anything as a group right now until this is fixed/changed.

Flares are *not* 'busted'. They do not work in PvP. They only work in PvE. This is intentional.
If you can't keep your group together, and hold off attacking until you are all within 10 miles of the attacker, then you run the risk of having stragglers picked off. I've used that tactic in Beta, sailing a tackler, grabbing 5 of the group so that my group can pick off the poor guy they left behind. A valid tactic IMHO.

This is very true, but on the other hand Lag can make this realy hard in OS. At Least it was in Beta, all the action around a port, the NPCs, Muti teams of Players, all this can make even the most skilled players split from there group.
Then there is the fact that there is no way to have the names of players, and NPC displayed over a ship at all times. Turning a Ship in OS, trying to Click on a target, controling the View all this can add up.
Hmm i dont even think there is an Auto-follow in this game.
Nothing suxs more then getting Locked out of what could be a 10 to 20min fight. I mean realy where is the fun in that. You spend time LFT, you find one zone into OS sail around a while, Bingo find a PvP player or group then Doh! got locked out while my other teammates zoned into the fight. Oh well guess i will go AFK for 10 to 20+mins and miss all the fun. That or get ganked by another group. Time has value, and this is prob one of the lamest parts of the game.
I mean thats what i like about this game, fights last a while not like other MMos where u hack and slash mobs. But not when i am locked out of them.
Personely i am for a Group moving as one, that or having a Pop-up option to join when one of the teammembers goes into Combat.
Hopefully, with these many servers OS will never get as Laggy as it did in beta.

there is no link, they were bringing people into test last night to test some of the solutions they're working on.

Tulor is 100% correct. Flares are for PVE encounters only.
