Well, after putzing about with the game for a while one thing started to bother me in regard to up and comming PvP.

Namely French port of Grenville is overexposed.

Every other faction have at least one (British and Pirates actually two) ports within a spitting distance of Grenville. Now I understand Grenville was a favourite attack point in beta and rightly so. Not only it disrupts French communication if area is is contested or conquered it also wrecks havoc with new players who are starting a French captain.

While Pirates faction is somewhat different neither Spanish or British starting area is that exposed. British being at the map's edge on Guyana coast and Spanish are virtually out of range for anyone save a few British positions, even so nothing easier than sail straight to Cuba.

Having come from games where certain factions were PvP gimped and I really hope this game will not be among them.

Thank you.

That's not the reason, imo. Its a combination of things, including:

Oak -- rats need to take it to set up oak supply. This is why belize also gets attacked quickly.

Winds -- located near the flacid tip we call florida, it makes for a natural choke, into the wind. A perfect ambush spot.

Location -- It is both high traffic, congested with noobs, and easy access for rats. Perfect for farming nubs on easy mode while playing easy mode.

The perceived ineptitude/cowardice of the french -- people simply didn't believe france would fight back, yet it was known spain or brit would (for most of the beta). It was an easy target in beta. I don't believe that is true in live, at least on our server, but we will see.

All those are fair reasons, imo. Its the same reasons why we constantly attack IP, MT, havana, and various other towns. Not every town has equal tactical importance, and that's fine imo.

French port of Grenville is overexposed. It also has some mode of protection in place if things are as in open beta. They made lower level ports a bit harder to flip than higher. I think this will only marginally slow things though.

Besides, contention in your central port is good, means you don't have to sail half an hour to get to it. Right?
