I made it 75% opaque. I'm worried about the yellow showing up against the sail, hence, a smidge more opaque than the recommended 70%. All but the chain is transparent.

Just a quick tip. You will probably get a better response if you can attach your design in your post in .png format at the size you plan to submit. Good luck!

For some reason when I save it at 256x256 pixels, it's still too big to upload to the website as a png. Which I don't get, because most of it is transparent... it's just a bunch of chains in a design. It's like 223k or so.

You may have to use some minimal compression to get it down to size in order to post it. I use GIMP and for sails, I have to use a compression of 1 to get them small enough to post.

For some reason Adobe wouldn't convert it to png even when I thought it did. I should have checked the file extension on the result. GIMP did it easy. SO, here's the png. Everything but the chain is transparent. One question, when I upload it for submission what format should I use. GIMP said PNG doesn't support layers. I had to combine them for this upload. I thought they wanted layers to keep the transparency aspect of the picture.

I also made a flag. How's this?

Nice designs, the sail looks appropriate to me. The flags are good, and there are some real easy to follow tutorials like this one http://www.burningsea.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2564 further up in the stickies. Been playing around with them myself and finding the edge of the envelope of what I can do.

All these look great to me! PNG format does not support layers and that's ok, you don't need the layers just the final result. PNG does support transparency btw as opposed to jpg which does not.
