View Full Version : Port contention fair fighting?

I think we can all agree whatever gets people PvP'ing and losing ships is a good thing for everyone.

I am of the opinion our PvP system when it comes to port battles does little to encourage people to PvP once the battle is actually triggered. The red zone sits there , and a few groups may travel there in search of PvP but largely it's a lot of people sitting around just hoping someone shows up if people bother to go there anymore at all instead of moving on to create contention in another port.

What about the idea of that 24 hour period in addition to of course our red bubble , allowing 'battleground' style fighting. The port commander , and rebel agent (for simplicity of this example nation specific npc could be added) would contain sign up lists. I know I know battleground are the mark of the devil but hear me out.

These lists would be for 1v1, 3v3, 6v6 , maybe even 12v12. Since all fighting is instanced the only thing we are actually changing is how the fighters arrive in the instance. You arrive in port (you did have to go threw the red zone outside to actualy get here so you didn't dodge the OS system) go and sign up for one of these lists if you so choose. This actually signs up your ship. You can then if you wish use the port guy as usual to teleport to another ship and go do other stuff. But if that ship you have there leaves the port you are removed from the list.

When an enemy signs up at the other npc you are offered an invitation just like the port battle. If you choose to partake you are teleported to that port using the ship you signed up in and get your fight. Unlike a normal OS battle however you CANNOT flee this battle. That is your penalty for dodging the risk inherent in trying ot get a fair fight in the OS around the port. This also makes absolutly sure a durability from somone is lost anytime this battleground system is used. You could even restrict it to player made ships only.

Obviously the gankers who like to sit out and wait for some lone FT to stumble threw can still do their thing. This changes nothing as to the reason why someone might wander in solo to the red zone. Also they may find more targets at people try and run the blockades to get into the the 'battleground' like fights who otherwise would refuse to go near the area.

The fighting for contention and triggering the port battle itself are unchanged , and these NPC only offer the lists during the 24 hour period between a battle being triggered and a the battle taking place. Thus giving even more reason for people seeking this kind of PvP to get in there and generate unrest and duke it out in the OS with the other nation to get to 10k unrest.

Since it's just the numbers too you wouldn't get to choose if your fighting a pirate , or what level , what ship etc. There in lies another penalty for taking what some will consider the 'easy' way to pvp. You don't get to choose your enemy ONLY how many of them there are. Same for which nation , maybe you end up fighting a pirate , maybe the nation defending the port etc you don't know.

Regardless I think something like this would get more people to PvP. I know I personally would defenitly partake in this and I'm sure there are many others would would enjoy being able to get their 2v2 or 6v6 on without the constant 'he who can get the most friends in the instance wins' fighting of the OS. Since no one can flee it means the economy is garunteed a sacrifice apon the alter , for just the price of allowing people to have a numericly equal fight they seek.

Yes no ? Good bad ? Already in the works ?

there are still people there farming personal conquest points to get into the port battle,so no need.
