the Open Sea zone is relatively cramped in terms of PVP interaction.
will new players who join later in the game be able to pvp on an equal level with other new players? will there be so many high level players out in Open Sea just playing the game normally, preventing new players from pvping until level 50? discuss

-edit
and here is my WoW analogy. there are different zones that players of different levels migrate to.
i know this game isn't designed to play this way so i will quote an idea i had posted in another thread.

at the port captain you set your group limit to 1,2,3,4,5 or Open.

in Open Sea the group limit is displayed by the player name.

any group can attack any group, but no extra ships may enter a battle unless it's an Open group.

players who enjoy 1v1 would have to find another player with a 1 group limit and they can freely have a 1v1 match or any other combination of group limit groups. players can sail the seas looking for the even match or the handicap match, or even the underdog match.

i forgot to add in the Red Circle = Anything goes, meaning the limits are removed.

now to address the low level issue, there can be another limit called ship limit. ship limit can be divided into brackets such as 1-10, 11-20 etc. and again, Red Circle = limits are removed.

I can't quite work out what you are trying to say, or maybe you just don't understand how the game works. But lower level players are not at a huge disadvantage in this game. It's not like WoW where a lvl50 can one-shot a lvl20. Some of the best ships in this game are lvl15, lvl17 and lvl19 respectively (extra points if you can name all three!).

A good player in a lvl15 ship can easily outplay and win against a bad player in a Ship of the Line. That's not to say that a lvl15 player would have all the skills necessary to defeat a higher level opponent, but theoretically it's possible. Low level players can play important roles in groups, and learn a lot in the process. New players can also help by earning contention around ports.

As for your addition regarding group limits, Bzzzt! not going to happen. People will have to learn how groups work in OS combat and learn to stick together or find themselves outnumbered. Being outnumbered in itself is not necessarily a bad thing either, as good positioning in OS can mean you get to take out a lone enemy while his 5 friends race desperately from 3000y away :) I've been in a group of 2 and sunk one of a group of 6. How? I grabbed 5 of the group and ran while my friend grabbed the straggler that got left behind and killed him.

The 60-second timer on entering a battle is long enough to allow your groupmates to enter if they are paying attention and within range (Murphy spawns aside), and short enough so that every Tom, Richard and Harry in the area cannot enter once they see your battle.

These are the game mechanics, this is how the developers want the game to work, and bar a few bugs and issues, this is what you have to learn to deal with if you want to enjoy PvP.

I think the "Scirmish system" (spelling???) will solve most of this.
There you will be able to do scheduled fights against any opponent who agree to it.
This new system is said to come a few weeks after release.

Having peope sailing around in PvP Zones in their 104 gunner with a "1" set on themselves would pretty much prevent anyone from attacking.

Hmm the level 15 has me confused.. going to go with Mastercraft Bermuda Sloop?

For the level 17 my guess would be a Hermese Sleek Packet Boat

The 19 I'd go with Sleek Xebec

Although you are right that this is a terrible idea, you are wrong in this statement.

So your saying he's wrong because you solo'd a 104 gun 1st rate? Because at the end of beta every single naval officer, from newbie to experienced had one, and they didnt know how to use them. Also I find it peculiar that you cant make out what buffs that guy has and that he may have bee disconnected lol.

The guy's in a Society so I assume he had some sort of experience. Even if they are experienced, it's still possible to solo them in the right ship.

And yes, he did disconnect, just after this screenshot was taken. I have that screenshot too, wanna see it?

I'd prefer to see an actual video of it being done now that only the most skilled and trusted members of guilds will be able to actually captain one. :P

But I suppose it will be some time before that happens. Until then I cant believe that someone could do that without taking much damage against a skilled opponent.

Also, from that picture, and the fact that you said he disconnected a moment later, I can surmise that A) He said "Screw it Im not playing this stupid game anymore" and he was in fact, a noob. or B) He was having network problems and although he didnt actually disconnect until after that screenshot was taken. He wasnt able to fight back due to client side performance.

But forgive me for being skeptical.

You are forgiven.

I'm not trying to pretend to be god's gift to sailors. But the guy did put up a fight, and I have no idea why he disconnected. It wouldn't have made much difference if he hadn't. Maybe he was just bored, it did take me about half an hour to get to that stage!

My only point was that it is possible, in fact a lone SOL is the last thing any allied National would want to see on the OS, because they are incredibly vulnerable to small, fast ships.

A lone SOL with a "1v1" PvP flag on would be a gift to Pirates!
