View Full Version : PvP zones (no, I'm not asking why they aren't there)

I understand and agree with the decision to not allow port conquest until release. However, has there been any thought of still having PvP zones? I absolutely love PvP zones. Use the same contention system without port battles (or maybe even with port battles that don't result in a port changing hands... I'm sure plenty of people would participate), and then reset all the ports back to 0 on the 21st (if that is not too tedious).
Everyone's thoughts?

Fully agree!
Or even let the ports switch faction and just change em back on release.
People flipped ports in beta when it wouldn't last forever, they'd flip em in prerelease.
I'm SO happy to be playing again, but tbh this is more of a 'start the game at lvl 21' then 'play the game early'. (not that there is anything wrong with that, still loverly)
me and a friend searched for one hour on all the enemy starter points with PvP enabled havent seen a soul..

It's day 1 , people are leveling , setting up their production lines and getting their societies organized. You really should have expected no one to be flagged , it'd be a really rare folk who feel the big itch to PvP in the fallback starter ship.

Yeah some PvP would be cool, but I agree it is early yet, maybe it will come with some kind of compromise so we get areas at the least. :)

production lines?
Economic production lines. Manufacturing facilities to create new ships, etc.

Whadda ya mean without an economy? I've got me 'Bermuda' Sloop (captured) and basic round shot. What more economy do ya need? Now then, man the cannons! A l'abordage! (seriously though, if I do roll a national, I think it'd have to be French just so I can yell that)

My turn to say it: economy is pvp. :D

Perhaps if you just picked one of the ports that no-one really cares about and set it to pvp status until 21st Jan? Then at least we'd have a predetermined spot to go pvping for a couple of weeks. Admittedly it has no real purpose to it other than a 'spot of pvp', but to be frank, the people playing the pre-release are well aware of what is in store post-22nd taking pvp completely away is a bit of a sniffler.

Actually I planned to flag myself from the beginning.
But then the game forced me to get to level 5 before I could do that...

If im not mistaking, you cannot enable your PvP flag in your fallback, im pretty sure you have to have taken a ship already. Im almost positive you cant PvP in your Fallback.

You can enable PvP and you can be ATTACKED in your fallback. However while in fallback ships you cannot attack...wierd huh?

Not so weird. Fallbacks are free ships. We had people in beta that would attack a group in one with no intention of winning, just of delaying the group from causing contention or from any other purpose. The attacker would get sunk, get another free ship and do it again. We had some in rafts doing the same thing. If you allowed free ships to attack a lot of people would make alts just for this purpose.
So free ships (fallbacks) and tiny ships can't attack. They can be attacked though if in a PvP zone or flagged.
Edit: I believe they can enter an existing PvP battle, however.
