A question

Okay I anew to this, but I wanted to do some RPing. So a society mate and I put on our PvP flags and went down to Bartica.

No one around there to PvP with, so I suggested we go to the next port over. I left first in my ship, my friend a moment later.

I get a message that my teammate is in battle.

A. I look around and there is no indication where he is at. At least some way to place player names or a group indicatior above the battle. I had this problem in normal PvE group on the sea. When there is 4 sword icons on the map and from a distance I can't see which one is it and have to sail aorund to find it.

B. He got attack right when he left port. There was no one around when I left so maybe someone was in stealth or whatever. But the problem was the battle was locked.

C. Okay I read there is a 1 minute lock on the battle. ... 3 minutes go by and it doesn't open for me to help him. Does this normally happen? Edit: He fired 2 flares, one at the beginning, then after the 5 minute cool down .. so for 5 minutes the battle was locked. Do flares allow people into PvP battles as well?

D. He gets defeated (so I know it was the right one I was in front of) A moment later I get attacked by 2 people group. So apparently it can happen.

This apparently happened to my groupmate before, being attacked when PvP in a gorup and his team mates can never help him after a minute passes. Could he be bugged or something else?

This is not a post to complain about PvP ... it's just odd. I've read posts about 6 v 1 so I know they can happen, just wasn't able to get in there to help.

Flares only work for PvE encounters. You have 60 seconds after the instance is started to enter. If you don't make it you are locked out for the duration. One thing you should never do when exiting a port is immediately move your ship, this will break the period of invulnerability that you have. So you should not have moved your ship until both of you were there in the Open Seas and able to move out together. If you stay within 10 miles of each other then both of you will get pulled into the instance.

If you can't readily see the colored circle around the battle marker zoom out and move your camera higher to get a more overhead view. Your friend's marker would have been colored blue while it was available for you to enter.

Its a feature whereby you gain frustration points by clicking tirelessly and randomly trying find your battle instance. Too bad a first-year coder may have implemented such a common-sense team friendly action that actually makes it more apparent to find your instance. :)

As Mr Sam said, if you stay in formation you wont have this problem.

Spinnaker Sam ~~ Yes I know I shouldn't have moved now. It's only my 4th day playing and my 1st ever doing PvP. One needs to learn the hard way.

Cik ~~ I agree about the coding. There was 4 other battle markers near Bartica, so even if I turned fast enough I couldn't have seen by looking at the mini map (where I really think should be the indication of where the group is fighting)

Archavious ~~ It's funny, there was no one outside Bartica at all when we showed up or when I left. So unless I lagged or someone was invised (or how it is in this game .. stealthed?) or my team mate loading was quite long, I thought he was behind me.

I do know about the blue circle and yes I have tried to move that camera all over the place. But if team mates are too far away (as in my society they have much faster ships than I and I really am bad ast steering my ship yet) I get frustrated trying to find them.

theres also lag.. we had a groupmate right beside us enter combat we all in vent and couldnt see the ongoing combat circle.. so we circle and circle meanwile its 3 on 1 and nothing we can do to help cause we couldnt join
