View Full Version : PvP in the open sea - My thoughts

I am a PvPer at heart. I have a suggestion to increase the amount of POSSIBLE PvP.
In the areas of Open Sea, how about a red circle that starts out small and is permanently there. As an area goes into contention the red circle grows. Players can always avoid this areas by hugging the coast ( unless ports are contested ) but this gives more reason to bring a port into contention ?
Not sure if this idea has been raised before. Any thought ?

it has but it is still a good idea considering a lot of trade ships were raided far from ports, not just outside them

Yep. In total "dead sea" areas that are miles from land, perma-pvp zones wouldn't hurt. More PvP = good.
Although that said, let's see how many PvP zones explode once the game gets into full swing; I'm sure there'll be plenty to do :)

There's always the island in the far north east section of the map that takes a good chunk of time to sail to, and has a dockable harbor but nothing else going for it.
They could always put a red circle around that for people that wanted to go party up that way.
Its kind of a cool little port for those of you that haven't bothered to sail there like I have lol.

Somerset Isle is where the supernatural missions are located why create a pvp zone all the way up there. No economic value whatsoever.

They wanted a PVP area in the middle of the ocean, i just figured i'd stick it by a port at least.
As for it being the location of the supernatural missions I didn't know that....but that's freakin sweet!

OS PVP has been a huge issue rolling here since Beta of PotBS. The problem I have seen with open PVP is simply the amount of players on each servers. With a high player count it is tough to stop stupid a55 jerks from just greifing people. I have played alot of MMO's and in the beginning it was much easier to control. I mean back in the day the servers would only hold 40 to 50 people and with that small of a community it was much easier to find those jerls and get rid of them. But now with technology the way it is it makes it that much more difficult to police this.
Now don't get me wrong I still feel strongly about some kind of change to allow Pirates, and those Privateers, to attack merchant ships carrying goods back to their Nation's AH or production facilities. There has been much debate and after much deliberation on my part I finally see the dilema that FLS faces: How to introduce a full PVP function to a game when it is so "popular" to be a jerk and mess with people? There is no easy answer for this and without 24/7 server admins to regulate this activity it makes it even harder. I for one would advocate for a PVP server as hard as I can because in thruth the reason my Society wants it is not to kill every trader in sight. By killing all traders and making it impossible for the FT to sail around you force them to sail in much larger ships designed for combat and not trading, effectively eliminating the class benefits all together. Our roleplay is simply to "tax" the trader for a portion of his cargo, a small portion at that. As I have come to this conclussion we realise that now we must change our RP and become more aggressive in nature and basically take advantage of ports that are flagged for Pirate PVP and kill as many merchants as we can until the naval "big guns" come in to save them.
For this reason we have elected to go to Bonny, the RP server. It is our hope that on a RP server more people will be flagged for PVP and thus give us the chance to attempt our RP. Our clan has been around for over 6 years now and we completely realise that in some cases we must adjust our sanctioned RP in order to fit into whichever game we play and this is not an issue. The main issue simply boils down to immature jerk offs whose main goal in life is to be an a55hat in game, more than likely because they are fat slobs like the Southpark WoW episode. I for one will be watching and still thinking of ways to introduce full Pirate PVP into this game as it adds a much needed risk at OS.
Anyway thats my 1 mill DB's worth.

As the above poster mentioned OS PvP ares have been beaten to death. I didn't read it all cause I hate reading long posts. Once contention is enabled most of the Antilles will be in PvP circles most of the time. Just wait in about a month things will be very different. About a month after launch the battles will be huge, the map will have many Red Circles, some of which overlap creating even larger PvP areas.
As far as full PvP it is on a back burner at the moment. There has been no denial or confermation of the possibilities of a Full PvP server in the future.
For this reason we have elected to go to Bonny, the RP server.
Morgan is more of a RP server :)

:yar:Hey Cik,
Is Morgan really that much more of a RP because Bonny is Suxors ATM?
