So I'm not new to mmos at all, but I'm very new to this game. I am interested in leveling a naval officer for one of the three nations in order to participate in competitive pvp and the port battles. However I noticed that the times for the port battles are rather random. I live on the west coast (Pacific time) and it seems like all the port battles are at about 1am-1pm for me. This won’t work for me because I need sleep sometimes and I work during the day.

I guess my question is which server/faction should I choose for good balanced pvp that isn't in the early am?

I say faction too because I'm not really interested in being the alliance at the start of wow again and losing 9/10 BGs I go into.

Its too early for Defiant, and yet so late a lot of the US servers will have a lot of PBs while you are at work. They really need to designate one of the US servers as PST.

As for which server, I would suggest these, based on your preference:

Antigua -- Spain or Brit. Server tends to be a bit early for you (mostly late euro/est) but it also has the largest population. Spain was the top faction for a long time, but recently quit and is rebuilding. Britain has the numbers, but needs leaders to step up.

Blackbeard -- France. Probably the closest to your time, but even it has some earlier battles. France has the most skill on the server, but simply aren't big enough to beat spain and britain. Good group of gamers, and they are so close to winning, they just need bodies.

On Antigua we've had some battles that were 6-8pm eastern. This would be around 3pm-5pm there which might be more fitting to you. I'm not good at giving port battle times as I work a lot and spend time with my fiance so I tend to miss them but Antigua is really good due to the random port battle schedule that we seem to have. Especially when we have multiple battles in one day. France is currently the number one nation right now and we worked hard to rise to the top. Spain on the other hand has been victorious for three maps in a row.

Brits aren't currently doing too well but they're starting to learn and with a few good leaders can rise to the top but if you're looking for a nation you're more comfortable in with a winning streak France and Spain are both really good with good players. I can't vouch for Spain but we have people who help new players into ships and some like giving new players free ships in France. Spain, I believe, has some really nice players as well. Britain, having the highest pop, has many societies especially ship building ones so finding groups/societies/ships there should be an easy task as well.

Overall, all three Nations are very prosperous for new players. It depends on what you want. When I joined France it was at the bottom but has risen to the top. Britain could do the same as well. If you don't mind being an underdog they could really use some help. If you want to recharge a waning super power Spain's the right choice. If you want to roll on the Nation that has just recently risen to power France is your bet. It all comes down to personal choice and what you want to do. Good luck on your decision. :) I tried to be as least bias as possible.

I wouldn't worry about picking a nation based on how well it is doing currently because things are not static. A nation's fortunes can come and go like the tides.
