There's no need to get emotional over this, just because you don't own up to date consoles. I'm pointing out that >>>I<<< would like the PSN server to be back up as soon as possible, and of course SOE sometime after.

Which from the link that was put in here earlier, that I included in the last post seems to be the case, I don't see how it can be unfair in anyway to assume that the PSN will be going up before SOE. :)

EDIT: How has that link been proven false? for me it says it was fairly recent, Tuesday, May 10, 1:50 PM (for my time, will be different for others)

Well I made the mistake of buying MK for my ps3 instead of the 360, I haven't bothered to open it yet :(

that being said I want to try it out online a little more than I want to get back on potb, though both would be good :p

ninja_chris 05-10-2011 09:45 AM

i own a PS3 but i'd rather play POTBS however, i believe that at best SOE will be up by the end of may but as time progresses it seems more likely it'll be into june b4 we get back in game again.
i expct i'll be here but ti is a long time to find another obsession

James Hope 05-10-2011 09:54 AM

You guys need to start buying new games for your PS3's, you're clearly not making the right purchases if you are finding POTB more exciting, it's a great game but it isn't exactly "edge of the seat" entertainment. :p

and yeah I do realise different people enjoy different games, but you don't really buy consoles if your tastes only go as far as MMO's :D

TheNewYorker 05-10-2011 09:56 AM

....

The attacks began several days before and the symptoms were seen, lag, difficulty in communicating with the server, etc ...
There are warnings that I think have been neglected, and this was the result.
It 's impossible to have passed so many days after cracking (not hacking) without rispistinate services.
The problem is more serious than what they say, and in the U.S. and other states are already preparing a class-action.
This is the result, using open source systems (where everyone knows the code) to handle sensitive data like credit card and personal data.

PSN Restoration Timeline Update

+ Posted by Patrick Seybold // Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media

I know you all want to know exactly when the services will be restored. At this time, I can’t give you an exact date, as it will likely be at least a few more days. We’re terribly sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work through this process.

Heh, my taste in games is mainly console shooters and the odd racing game, and I play the Il2 flightsim series on the PC too.

PotBS is the only MMO I play, never been interested in Fantasy or Sci-Fi but I like ships :P

Been playing CoD online again while PotBS has been down, fun but its getting a bit boring now. Might try WoT if SOE doesn't come back online soon.

That is assuming that both require the same kind and extent of work, and that they don't have teams working on both at the same time. Two very large assumptions.

I have played a little black ops, lol I haven't gotten around to getting the new escalation map pack yet though :p, and those are similar reasons to why I decided to play PotB, it's just a little different :)

Consoles grow on you over time if you give them a try, to really enjoy a console you have to regularly buy new games though, they aren't as long winded as MMO's and can get boring quickly if you play quite a lot :D

lol, a change of pace is good, but I'm really liking the variety of PotBS, where CoD is getting so I have a strategy for each map (and it is more or less the same strategy for all of them), and the only variety happens when a enemy doesn't play like normal or finds a new camping spot and messes up my killstreaks :p

I haven't brought Escalation either, the maps packs just aren't different enough to be worth the money. Mind the different CoDs are all pretty similar too...

true that, I usually buy them in any game to speed up the matchmaking process :). We all know there is a lot more to consoles than CoD though, it's popular but by no means the best game out there :)

genewalker 05-10-2011 11:23 AM

i just called soe and they said they havent released any information on when services will be back up aswell as they are a diffrent company than the playstation network
he told me soe should bring services back up sooner than the end of may that the may 31st deadline is for the Playstation Network not SOE

Mostly time tbh, it's much faster and easier to find a game on consoles, not to mention the silly mods and other things that people enjoy ruining PC games with :(

Only thing I play on PC is RTS/RPG/MMOrpg though I do like some third person action on the PC, borderlands ftw, though another victim of mods :p

Consider...

1. Open source code where anybody can look for bugs, report back to the devs and get a fix. Your progress is monitored by those looking at your code.

2. Closed source code where there are fewer people checking for bugs and if one is found and deemed too costly in terms of dev time to fix, but can be ignored for a while/indefinitely because only those with source access know about. Progress monitored by the company whose primary interest is money rather than the product.

And you seriously think closed source is more secure??

With open source you have to update quickly though because if bugs are found more will know about them. You also have the freedom to fix bugs yourself rather than waiting for the vendor if they are being slack.

Using closed source you just sit around waiting for patches from the vendor unless you are lazy and stay on your current version because, well, it works and has never caused problems before. You are blissfully unaware of any bugs (until they happen) because neither you anybody you know has a way of checking.

Software always has bugs and trust me the typical end user is blindly unaware of most of them in closed source. In open source people WILL call you out on sloppy code, bugs or things you don't want to do because it will take too long/cost too much money.

Yes I work in the software industry. No, not FLS, Sony or anybody else you would have heard of.

I personally quite enjoy the modsoups that SHIII, SHIV, Europa universalis and PotC Builds are :D

We thank everyone for their continued patience as work continues on SOE services. They will not be up today, May 11th, but we are working as quickly as possible to resolve this.

Erik the Swift 05-10-2011 12:35 PM

I still don't understand where exactly do they see "patience"?

It would be nice if they would phrase their updates such that they didn't lead us to believe the problem would be fixed in the next day or two. Tell us next week. Tell us two weeks. But don't say, "ahh, we didn't get around to it today. our bad. check back tomorrow," ESPECIALLY when they know it won't be up tomorrow.

If "a few" is 20.

Would be nice to see some estimate though. It would be a lot better if we could just get a vague estimate instead of having Sony apologize to us everyday.

"End" is not 31st May, it's the period of about ten days before it.

PSN is more important to sony than SOE tough! :p

Not sure...again, as was said before, PSN will not lose customers if its shut down for a long time because PS3 owners will not throw ther machines through the window...they will still own a PS3 and the games on it.

But SOE customers are PC players who can easily switch to anther game and never come back...their PC and their ability to play games do not depend on SOE... So they will prefer not to lose those customer and restore SOE as quickly as possible.

BUT again, all this does not mean much because SOE and PSN are 2 different companies owned by Sony and both have their own means, budgets and manpower... Sony is not working FIRST on PSN and THEN on SOE...both things are separate processes in separate structures.

AND finally, there is probably far less work to do on SOE than there is on PSN...simple matter of size :P

All that make me think that your reasonning is not good my friend :)

Desertwind 05-10-2011 04:13 PM

Your right PSN is not the same as SOE PSN the deadline for PSN is end of may SOE is probably like september.

Sony is only as strong as their weakest link..
Socom 4 commercial*

Also Aim low avoid dissappointment example: I think that SOE will be back noline june 6th
