that would be a numpty at SONY then?

Charles Courage 05-02-2011 03:07 PM

On the subject Bin Laden, how come it takes the Playstation network to go down before special ops boys get their stuff together and go do it for real?

Oh bye the way well done, only I do hope you did not kill him outright but made sure you get/got as much info out of him regards his organisation prior to a painful end, absolutely great idea telling everyone he is buried at sea, rather spiffing. I do hope he was/will be dropped from a great height some poetic justice if this be the case.

Grutte Pier 05-02-2011 03:32 PM

I bet this is al queadas revenge

James Hope 05-02-2011 03:33 PM

Change all your information NOW, the SOE section has also given all your details away.

ShakaVoodoo 05-02-2011 04:04 PM

FLS - will you be extending times for port governor elections when (if) the servers come back on-line and with enough consideration for global player timezones since we don't have a clue when this event will occur?

I would hate to lose my governorship to a 20 influence open bid that I can't counter because the servers are closed.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that port governor elections aren't really on FLS' radar screen just now.

Majestic 05-02-2011 04:10 PM

Im interested how this is going to work with the F2P accounts and such.

SOE will grant customers 30 days of additional time on their subscriptions, in addition to compensating them one day for each day the system is down. It is also in the process of outlining a "make good" plan for its PlayStation®3 MMOs (DC Universe Online and Free Realms). More information will be released this week.

bungeelemming91 05-02-2011 04:11 PM

Isnt it a nice mind to see PotBS on a Steam Frontpage? ;)

If SOE/Sony can not handle with some hackers FLS should consider to change their partners.

And Steam is an ecellent platform for advertising.. Could boost population as well..

This is my opinion after those many sites..

ShakaVoodoo 05-02-2011 04:13 PM

From the sounds of things they don't have much to do but sit around and wait for SOE to open for business.

James Hope 05-02-2011 04:13 PM

Steam would be an amazing option for PotB, but I doubt it would ever happen

macer123 05-02-2011 04:15 PM

FLS needs to come up with an alternative plan quickly. I don't blame them for using an outside firm in the least bit, focus on what you do well. Steam has a great reputation, respected by the community...unlike Sony, they should look there.

Reading the details of the compromise, it's amazing Sony had such elementary protection. Invincibly Ignorant.

DragonFire 05-02-2011 04:41 PM

I have a steam account, if you would like my steam friends info I will give to you if you send private message, tilll then its braves time on T.V.

BTW I slept 4 hours today, was the most amazing thing ever....the ability to rest and be comfortable was something i was searching for.

MrSparkle 05-02-2011 04:54 PM

Does this security breach affect any of us who recently paid for a month of PotBS? I did about two weeks ago and now I'm very concerned. I'm not a part of the Playstation network or anything, just PotBS.

I didn't read through this entire thread so sorry if this is a duplicate question.

James Hope 05-02-2011 05:00 PM

I believe the payment system is somehow linked to SoE, as when it is down we can't log in, and you need to be logged in to change any information, not sure who manages that section though

JohnnyBlaze 05-02-2011 05:01 PM

" Tokyo, May 3, 2011 - Sony Corporation and Sony Computer Entertainment announced today that their ongoing investigation of illegal intrusions into Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE, the company) systems revealed yesterday morning (May 2, Tokyo time) that hackers may have stolen SOE customer information on April 16th and 17th, 2011 (PDT). SOE is based in San Diego, California, U.S.A. "

That's all folks!

DragonFire 05-02-2011 05:02 PM

This is a bit worry some. Some folks have actually paid into the game for an upwards of 3 years now and they are wondering if all their time/money investment was going to be protected.....we might need some one of dev power to come in here and shed some light.

Braves are ahead in their ball game for the baseball fans out there, and yes my house is in a gentle state of peace:)

John Webb 05-02-2011 05:17 PM

Additonal information forthcoming, but stock shares have spiraled down and due to this effect, SOE will also be granting free bananas from all their street vendors in San Diego California.

Also a little tidbit:

"About Sony Corporation

Sony recorded consolidated annual sales of approximately $78 billion for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2010. Sony Global Web Site: http://www.sony.net/ "

A company so large that they can't control their files is cause for concern indeed.

James Hope 05-02-2011 05:28 PM

Lets hope FLS use this time to put 2.5 onto the servers! :D

Braziliano 05-02-2011 05:40 PM

Good stuff
Playstation Network is down since 2 weeks or so

So i guess there will be no pirates for a while
tbh i got 14 day vacation in 2 weeks so im sure i wont kill anyone in potbs before june

sony rly needed 2 weeks to find out soe got hacked after psn did get hacked? thats a joke lol

stop blaming fls for it it isnt their fault. maybe they didnt choose the best company to stream their game but who could know that

Doubtful - from my observation, it isn't quite ready to hatch, but perhaps come over to the Test Server and see if the changes are worthy of promotion to the 'live' environment.

From what I've read in the Release Notes, Fishing should be rolled out in 2.6 while presently showcased in a pair of instances of parallel Jenny Bay and Charlesfort harbors.

James Hope 05-02-2011 06:11 PM

I wish I could, but it doesn't look like we will be playing any potb for a little while :)

I'm in the same situation. I first put my credit card into SOE's system about one week ago. The breach Sony had was earlier.

"Tokyo, May 3, 2011 - Sony Corporation and Sony Computer Entertainment announced today that their ongoing investigation of illegal intrusions into Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE, the company) systems revealed yesterday morning (May 2, Tokyo time) that hackers may have stolen SOE customer information on April 16th and 17th, 2011 (PDT). So, unless the hackers gained a sustained access to SOE from the 16th onward, newer players are safe.

That 'unless' is the open question for us.

from http://www.soe.com/securityupdate/pressrelease.vm:

The personal information of the approximately 24.6 million SOE accounts that was illegally obtained, to the extent it had been provided to SOE, is as follows:

* name
* address
* e-mail address
* birthdate
* gender
* phone number
* login name
* hashed password.

In addition to the information above, the 10,700 direct debit records from accounts in Austria, Germany, Netherlands and Spain, include:

* bank account number
* customer name
* account name
* customer address.
Does this mean they only got debit info from outside the US? (I'm in the US). I'm not seeing anything about them stealing credit or debit card info from the 24.6 million accounts.

It's not my SOE account I'm worried about, it's my credit card info. I signed up on the 15th.

Not only am I worried about my credit card info, but this outage screws up the time I pay for. They better reimburse us.
