Producing the Future

Fodderboy has just posted a new devlog: Producing the Future.
Quote:

I'm Brian Taney, aka Fodderboy, and I'm the new Producer on the Pirates of the Burning Sea project. Some of you may already be familiar with me as until recently I was the QA/Customer Service manager. I am taking over for Misha, who is moving on to another project here at FLS after putting in over 7.5 years on PotBS as a whole.
You can read the article here, and then share your comments in this thread.

Clarification would be in order I think.

Also, can we expect any changes to RvR in this lifetime?

Woobie 07-09-2011 12:20 PM

So basically all that was really said was.... we get tatoos... that we have to pay for.

Congratulations on your new appointment!

I think this is something that will be welcomed:

The 2.7 build will feature the first of many adjustments we plan to implement; it will focus on making adjustments to loot tables, to insurance values, and to daily mission rewards, and a general cleanup of some of the items in game we feel have become obsolete over time. The overall goal of these adjustments is to reduce excessive flow of currency into the game as well as to cut down on items dropped that are of little value to most players and tend to clutter up warehouses and ships. This is a preliminary step necessary to prepare for changes we are planning for ships, outfitting, skills, avcom gear and the economy, which will in turn lay the foundation for enhancements we are designing to endgame RvR.
Will you publish what you are doing or leave it to players to work out for themselves. Loot tables have never (as far as I am aware) been published, but changes to them are often divisive.

Will the general cleanup include making some outfittings obsolete?

How soon should we expect to wait for the "changes we are planning for ships, outfitting, skills, avcom gear and the economy", and how big changes are you anticipating. I would be a little alarmed to see P&P-style changes introduced right now; a few tweaks to skills and ships perhaps, but I don't think the classes or the ships they can sail are too unbalanced right now; AvCom wants some bigger balance changes and outfittings (ship outfittings, I don't know enough about AvCom gear) could do with a thorough overhaul partly in the light of stacking penalties, as outfittings largely got missed in P&P. I wonder what you have in mind for the economy.

im impressed. if fodderboy delivers on even half of this the game will finally be moving in a good direction!!

Congratulations Fodderboy! Since you are in charge of PotBS you should know who is in charge of the Shipwright forum! :p

The model for the Alecto is on the FTP and has been awaiting review for almost a year now. Seems the 3DSC are busy with real lives and don't have so much time to put into it anymore after many years of sterling service. :)

When you look at the game FLS realizes that "casual player"=care bear

FLS has now realized it has NOOB CHURN- this is when a noob come and plays and leaves and another noob takes his place.

What r some key factors in noob churn?

I think FLS realizes now that each nation has 6-12 hradcore pvpers that always sit by MT these same 6-12 people from each nation have guided the development of the game into total failure.

because the map is super small no one can pvp and win but these same 6-12 uber PvPers from each nation.. that means anyone else is simply fodder so over time they dont pvp leavign these 6-12 sitting on the os by MT everyday.

quite simply NO CRYING in the red has more or less been a failed concept.

PvP should move to an entirely seperate area around sommersett.
No more Pvp should take place around any of the ports.. instead a vote is taken to conduct RvR attacks.. PvP will go on and RVR will be stronger...and MORE boats sunk . no more contention grind just a simple vote then everyone gets an invite.. and more 24v24 battles. more ships sunk..MORE economy.... RVR will drive the economy more than the current same 6-12 pvpers pvping every night..which will still happen...but in its own area

this is the only way i see that the game goes on by the 1st of 2012. seperate PvP from the Carebear 100% let people do their econ in peace.

if you FLS decide to not listen to me but instead listen to the same 6-12 pvpers the game will die by years end.

Bring back first rates...SELL the writ in the TA for $20 dont sell the boat only the writ. second rate writs for $15
if u cant do that you need to up the gundecks on the thirds to 30 lbers. the middeck to 18 and the top deck by 2-3 lbs. to make these boat slightly signifigant again.

if your gonna maintain the concept of red around ports and contention grind The french noob area should move to louisiana. the mid french area to the now french noob area.

1 Port per red circle...... the port in contention should NEVER cover more than itself

I fully expect to be flamed by thoise same 6-12 from each nation--48 players who have caused thousands of subs to be lost with their constant cries for more pvp. FLS simply cant let these 50 people control the game or its over by years end.

Congratulations on your oppointment and fair winds to Misha.

Your message is most welcome, especially the recognition that red names have been too quiet on forums for a long time. I hope you have the determination to follow this through and most of all keep us informed and involved. Please show us that you care as much for this game as we do.

Oh God you play Tiggy France don't you?

/shame

I liked your tip to new players to grind twenty lvl25 toons and amass thousands of MoVs through CoC trade-ins every map loss. That was a wonderful vision for the development of the game.
