Hello all, I was just viewing some Blogs on economics (something I don't do as often as I probably should) and came across an interesting future book title: "The Invisible Hook"
This is, of course, a reference to the "Invisible Hand" mentioned by the classical economist Adam Smith. In this case however, it seems the focus of study is not merely the land-lubbers in England discovering the Wealth of Nations but rather the Pirates that not only sailed the seven seas but kinda developed their own Democratic order. It would seem the Brethren of the Coast had some aspects of a nation already born into them. Here is the link to the blog: http://austrianeconomists.typepad.co...-in-the-j.html I am not connected to the blog nor the book in question but thought Pirates and Nationals alike might find this interesting. I may have to pick up a copy when it comes out in 2009. |

Believe it or not, but this is represented in the Pirate story-line and lore for this game.

I'll be darned. I'm only level 28 and thus haven't seen a ton of the plot. I saw a little of this in the game but I didn't know whether it was elaboration by the developers or a bit of history I never learned.

Yeah, it's actually the justification for having a pirate nation. The devs aren't just making a game in 18th century Caribbean for fun, but they have a real devotion to that setting. I had the pleasure to listen to Rusty tell me about all these cool stories he's learned about and researched. When he was talking, he didn't seem like the CEO of a video-game development company, but more like an excited little boy talking about his favorite new movie.
