WTH my ship is gone after one fight!!!??

SO i'm doing the economy tutorial and after i'm done the chick is like ok if you want to do a dangerous mission for me go feel up the English fancy pants traders and see whats hot and whats not... so i take it and finish it, get some good info but then its like oh yea one more part to that quest

so i look on the map of where i'm supposedly to go and its like at the bottom of the map from where i am

i'm a level 6 French Freetrader at this point.

so i'm like what eves ill just go and hope for the best, figuring the port is not near my level at all AND i can see like 3 PvP zones near it i decide to sail way around it and come in below it to avoid all that hot zones.

and on top of that for this particular journey i'm like well i should get a nicer ship cuz i finally had enuff money to get one

Long story short about halfway to the port some level 25 NPC catches me and killz me, i wake up in the port i left at, the same port i bought my ship and and Guess what!

My brand new ship is GONE...WTF after one fight if your not in your ****** ship it breaks and is unusable? Also you cant run from NPC's...WTF i'm a free trader not a fighter when i want to run i should be able to!

i'm hoping to come here and get response like..."your a noob go to the bla bla bla" and all my stuff will be a waiting for me

Let you guess, you purchased a Civi ship? They only have 1 durability and are pieces of garbage.

You should be able to run from NPC's ships, most of them are fairly slow and are not very smart about taking advantage of the wind. You need to know the best point for your ship though to makke a good escape.

Try to buy player built ships from the AH, they are much better. You can usualy get them dirt cheap to if you ask around on national. I know I makke them near cost for new players.

Did you buy a Civilian Ship? Because they only have a Durability of 1 and since you lose a Durability when your ship is defeated then a Civilian Ship only lasts one sinking.

It certainly sounds like you had a bit of an education in your first big voyage. A few things you might learn from the experience.

NPCs will attack you anywhere. You can lower your risk by not sailing through large concentrations of NPCs, but that can be difficult.

If you get in a fight with an NPC much higher level than you then Run. This involves knowing which direction to run. Do you have your Sailing Ring turned on (hit the \ key), that will show you where your ship will sail poorly (red and yellow sections). Do you know your ships best sailing angle? If you react fast and start to run early and in a reasonable direction there are very few NPCs that should catch you.

Civilian ships are cheap because they are crappy. If you can save up wait until you can buy a player crafted ship off the Auction House. The statistics are better on the Player Crafted ships and they have higher Durability so you don’t lose them the first time you get sunk.

I would encourage you to have another go at sailing to your capital in your free fallback ship, the best ship that you can get at level 6 isn’t going to make a difference if you encounter similar problems, and you can try til you get it right at no cost, well no cost in replacement ships at least.

yeah civilian ships are for experienced players who want to save money and really need just 1 point of durability.

No, civillian ships are for new servers where there aren't any player made ships. I can't think of a decent reason why an experienced player would buy one over a player made, since their stats are nerfed. All 4 remaining servers have more than enough player made ships available.

Hint: If you just need a teleport ship buy a desperation raft, it's the cheapest ship in the game.

Everyone else has made good points. I would strongly suggest ignoring the poorly designed quests that try and send you to the capitol before level 20. There really isn't anything you need to do there before then, and you are better off not wasting the travel time.
