Default How do I choose an avatar fighting style?

I can create a pirate and get through the tutorial, but I was never given an option to choose a fighting style. It seems like I'm stuck with one by default, and not necessarily the one I want. I've gathered that you can change your fighting style when you respec, but that's far into the game. Am I stuck with the "wrong" fighting style until then, or is there something I'm missing?

You dont get to choose at the start. Every Class is assigned a Style by default.

From there you have a couple options:
1. The starter town has a mission that will give you a free swashbucklign respec which will let you clear your current skills and select a new style/skills. "far"? Would be like 10 minutes. Fighting style doesnt realy make a difference until the 30's anyways.
2. You can trade in various items at the capital to get swashbucklign respecs.

You have to be at least rank 5 before you get the mission to change your fighting style. The mission comes from your swashbuckling trainer.

Its not massively important but in my opinion its best to pick a fighting style that suits your charactor.

Pirate with a neat Rapier doing fencing would look somewhat strange TBH. For pirate i usually go dirty fighting or Florentine. (prefer florentine)

Thanks for the advice.

I've got a level 6 Buccaneer in Marsh Harbor, and am talking to the fencing trainer, and he won't offer me a mission. I hope you're not talking about the one to get a bunch of pennons or whatever. That's a lot longer than ten minutes into the game, to actually collect the pennons at a low level.

Hmmm. That's strange. Try the Dirty Fighting trainer.
