Here's a screen of me doing 53 knots today. I know of at least two ways I could make that ship go faster, and I know of at least two ships that are faster than that one. But since everyone will claim I am hacking/photoshopping, I decided to post it up here and see who can guess what I am running or beat it.
I will post up how I did it showing each step after a week. The person who gives the best explanation of how it works (exact skills, outfitting, etc) will win a prize (what server you are from will determine what it is)! Enjoy, won't you! ![]() P.S. I was in the instance alone -- no one else is buffing me. |

Buccaneer in a fallen. 2 runners rigs, 2 lightweight guns, 2 racebuilt hulls. Double threaded 5, engineered 5, taxmans rigging.
Crew focus: advanced sailing. Command: speed. Master rigger. Passive bucc speed. Whistle down the wind. Sonias dissertation. Expert sailmaster. Smugglers overhaul. Sailing at 180, obv. I'd say you hit the smugglers overhaul first, then whistle down the wind, and something weird happened and whistle gave 20% on top of the speed you were at from the smugglers overhaul. Or you haxxed. Wait: did you have an enemy to shoot to get scrapper up? If so, include that, and it also kinda explains your damage resistance. Also, inspiration for the accel. And wolfpack: prowlers. And 'unleash the hounds' if you do have a target available. |

Whats the point of goin 53 in the first place? :/ Unless there is a BTS stupid enough to be carrying a 1st rate deed in the red w/o and escort...

Also I think Wolfpack Prowlers is likely, with a derelict or target on hand to put up Unleash the Hounds. Maybe the other improvement would be a second broadside target for Scrapper too? It's also possible that with nothing decent to spend CoCs on you blew a thingumy of Swiftness too just for giggles, or maybe you didn't think it was worth it and THAT was one of the improvements possible. EDIT: Now I have a bit more time to delve into it I calculate that the 53 knots is based on your battle speed requiring 53.3% downwind buff at 180 degrees; and that quoted battle speed in turn needs 97.7% battle speed buffs; with any rounding errors of course. Master Rigger is 1 knot of quoted end-speed so 33.6 is the %-buffed battle speed. This requires 92% in %age buffs. It confirms Double Threaded perms because the 53.3% comes out from Whistle, DTSS5, SCR, 2x SDTS. As far as I'm aware you cannot improve your downwind modifier more than that, though there might be some consumable I'm unaware of. If so, then this is one of the improvements. 92% Battle is a lot, but you can get 20% from hull perms and 12% from gun perms. I'm pretty sure Taxman's is the best stacking speed general at 4%, with Gold Cross coming in second at 2%. At best that leaves 56% after fittings, and with 5% from Sonia's, 5% from Swiftness, 2% from Sailmaster then 44% remains to come from Skills. Passive Bucc skill and Dark as Night grant you 13% all the time, and Command: Speed and Wolfpack add 7% to that for several minutes. 24% remaining. Scrapper gives you 10% of that and Unleash if everything hits will give you 15% more. That gets you to 93% which is too much so maybe you omitted Wolfpack for morale reasons or missed with one shot from Unleash? I conclude that you are using Taxman's since the Cross would leave you down some. Now if you really wanted to cap battle speed you could have let NPCs shoot your sails down to 85% and then hit Bosun's starter and a mast brace, giving yourself an extra 17.5% Battle Speed whilst sails rep. Also, a collection of ruby will grant you a buff to speed. |

Your explanation was first, and best. However, you made several errors.
Only in avatar combat. The thing is I did not. That was my first area to improve. I had calculated enough to have 100%, but I made a mistake -- it turns out scrapper deactivates if you go too far away from your target. As I covered the distance before I had accelerated up to full speed, at the time I hit the screen I was no longer at 35 knots base. As you calculated, the way I hit 35 knots was 95% speed + 1 knot (as I recall, I tossed my notes and forgot about this): 8% focus 6% command 4% career 9% dark 1% wolf 15% hounds 10% scrapper 5% sonja 5% conquest 2% sailmaster 20% 2x racebuilts 12% 2x lightweights 4% taxmans 8.5% engineered 5 I had calculated that to have me hit the 35 knot cap. Now for directionals. Quote:
And that's it. 50 knots, with ease. |

Collection of Ruby is apparently av com and hence irrelevant. You also mentioned Smuggler's Overhaul. Bosun's Starter is a perfectly valid third way to reach the cap. Which you missed. Not to mention your latest edit post-dates mine. Quote:
