Default Peg Legs and Pegged CPUS???

My room mate and I have been experience very frequent crashes that start as early as server select screen. He insta crashes when trying to run windowed, mine is intermitant. The crashes happen during load screens, in the open seas, in port, in avatar missions, and vessel to vessel combat, completely random.

The crashes are complete lockups, that can't be alt-tabbed or ctrl+alt+del'ed from. If i give it a few minutes, it'll update my G15 clock once or twice, but then go back to not responding. I can't tell if it's memory leak / hard faults pegging the CPU or what.

Earlier today, "Yay! I hit 19... Boo I crashed..."

While not being the slightest delusional that I have an aging system (and his is nearly identical to mine), this is the first game we've ever played that crashes sometimes four times in a row, and then not for two hours, and then twice in a row.

I've tried enabling a page file, playing in windowed mode, changing drivers, changing settings, putting all settings in game down to zed, i've even taken my vitamins and said my prayers.
My room mate and I have wanted very much to play this game since we discovered it however many years ago. It just feels very disheartening to think that this might be a permanent problem, due to our systems, but i have to think that we exceed the minimum requirements, and there is an immediate fix, or a patch on the horizon to give us release.

If anyone has any suggestions, lemme have'm.

Enclosed is my DxDiag.

I think I had that yesterday for the first time. I was just running from the tavern to the magistrate in Grenville when the game suddenly stood still. Couldn't alt-tab back to windows so I had to use ctrl-alt-del to call the task manager. When that appeared I got the window that PotBS had stopped working and needs to be closed. I have a brand new system, so I don't think it's a hardware thing. Only happened to my one time yesterday during 3-4 hours of play. Never happened this way before either.

I played closed beta for several months with maybe a couple crashes tops. Then in preboarding, within the two weeks, I probably crashed 7-8 times (semi-hard lockups mostly - screen never refreshes but music keeps playing). And now it's hard to say, I can play for hours without a crash, or get a couple within an hour or two.

FLS is pretty quick about fixing these things, so I wouldn't worry too much. Check your logs after the game goes wonky and create support tickets if there's anything strange.

I must be one of the lucky ones. I think in the 3 months I've been playing, going back to closed beta, the game has crashed on me maybe twice, and none since preboarding started.

I'm glad someone else is experiencing similar problems. Even more so to hear that it probably isn't hardware based. Still, suggestions for a client side even temp fix would be awesome, while waiting for FLS and Nvidia to get things done on their sides.

Enclosed is my DxDiag.

Those of us running Vista....apparently there are still some memory management issues for us. According the last patch notes....a memory leak will still exist for us.

Remember, Vista uses memory differently than XP. Developers.......are still trying to figure out how it works.

Just show some patience.......the problem is more with Mr. Gates than it is with the Developers of PotBS

Awesome, there was a hotfix for vista, the virtual addresses for memory and stuff, i've installed it but haven't played for more than 30 minutes so i can't say whether or not it helped at all.
Even microsoft has said that it's kind of a staving off stick vs zombie horde, than it is a permanent fix. For whatever reason they haven't allowed programs to surpass 2gig as a hard cap in memory... But they are working on it.
This hotfix allows better virtual address assignment and all that jazz.

But by all means, don't stop looking into the issue :-p

Thanks for all the input.

Ok, just to update, after playing a few hours tonight, I had 1 crash to desktop, and my room mate had about 10 hard crashes... So I don't think that the hotfix quite did it....

Sadly the hot fix had little to no affect with this issue. I still crash like crazy.
