The "Le Courer" is a French Chasse-Maree, carrying 8 guns.
This is my first modelling project ever, so please, dont expect too much! Le Courer is pre-approved, according to the graveyard-diggings thread. She has a lenght of 21.66 meters, height of 3 meters, and a beam of 6.60 meters. Im using the Delftship program for the hull modelling, but there's barely any tutorials. I did the official tutorial, then started on the La Courer. But as expected: its not as easy as it looks. So, even after little progress, id like some help. Here are my questions: 1. The bodyplan view seems to not match the normal plan view. Am i doing something wrong? 2. Im having some troubles reading the lines on the underside (in Plan view), some lines start from the top. Most lines start from the bottom. I got the feeling that most of the lines that start at the top are irrelevant, as they show the inside decks of the ship. Does someone have a good explaination? 3. What should i improve before starting on modelling the next part of the ship? 4. What should i model next? The keel? the decks? the stern? P.S. The gunports are totally failed, please dont comment on it, unless you have a neat idea how to fix it ![]() |

I have no idea about Delftship as a program, but it looks like you've tried to model the hull from the side plan, whilst plans are designed to read from the front plan first: ie you build the ribs of the hull first, then apply the planking to them. If you look at your frontal plan the lines don't match the plans at all well...
![]() I may be teaching you to suck eggs here so ignore me if I'm being patronising, but M6 is the midpoint of the hull, and corresponds to the outermost ribs in the frontal plan. Each number then corresponds to the next rib forward or backward from that point: so there are 5 ribs forrard and 7 aft, plus the stern tuck. When I built the Arcadia I basically drew the ribs first from the frontal plan, then positioned them along the length of the hullform using the sideplan. Don't know if that's possible in your program though. :S It also looks like the program has some kind of automated "Flow" generator that smoothes the hull, and this is why your ports look odd: it's not making the corners square but rather is trying to round them off. Most programs have an option to turn this off, but again I can't help you with where to find this... All that aside, the hullform looks very nice and smooth. Bear in mind the hull is the hardest bit to get right after the rigging, so it's worth the frustration to get it looking just how you want it! ![]() P.S. I'd double-check the ship is still valid with the SC. 1779 is outside the timeframe but I think chase-marees are one of the "special" types approved for the game. Either way it's a very good start project so good luck! |

The program has indeed an automated flow generator. Its called "Control Curves". Im still trying to find out how to turn it off for the gunports.
On the topic of the bow/stern view: currently you see the lines in the Profile and the Plan view match the plans. However, if i start doing stuff in the bow/stern-view, it totally ruins the Profile view, and the Plan view. I must have made a mistake there somewhere (background not well attached, not well scaled or something like that). Although the program does scale all the plans to the same scale if you only scale one. So... i dont know what i did wrong ![]() On topic of the pre-approval, i hope it still is. But after checking out the differences between the 'Renard' and the 'Le Courer', im pretty convinced it is. Its slightly bigger than the Renard, carries 2 more guns and has some extra sails. Not a big difference, so it should be fine. If someone from the 3DSC could comment on this, i would be very happy ![]() |
