Level 21 freetrader here, looking to try out solo pvp as a lowbie in a few more levels and I'm after some up to date advice on build and ships, as it looks like other threads are outdated. Advice on ships for high level pvp also welcome.
Assume no support from societies or that I'll have loads of money unless it's really easy to get (got 147k atm). Similar threads for other classes might also be a good idea Build- Currently I have full desperation and ship mastery line, looking like this by lvl25 http://www.gumworm.com/index.php?id=190 SC-50125000 I was thinking maybe this might work later at max level. SC- 53525050 But I'm pretty certain someones's got a better idea. A general order in which skills to go after first for better early on pvp would also be nice as pvp seems easy enough so far. Ships- I was thinking of getting a MC mediator cutter or MC hermes and fitting Speed rigs x2 Speedgun+wadding Armour Planking x2 Generals would be the experimental sights(+5 accuracy), agents spyglass(+OS spotting, +3 acc and a King of France bust(+7% reload). No idea what high level ships are good and affordable. P.S My join dates old as I was free trial but ended up playing something else. |

Uhh.. get into something fast and nimble (a Xebec, perhaps?), hope the small boat defense can keep you from getting /lolONESHOT on the way in, and then stern camp, i guess? No idea if this is viable, just not sure what else you could try.
Or, contact JW Santhem, maybe.. he gets some beast performance out of medium boats, somehow..

you need to be level 22 to use the best medium ship mods so a small ship is best. Small ships also have better base defense as well as better stat gain from mods.
You really have 2 choices when it comes down to small ships that can be used in PvP. First is the MC Cutter, this is the typical ship of choice. Just one of them has limited combat abilities, but a group of 3 or 4 of them can easily sink a level 50 ship. They have the heaviest guns out of all the small ships and can therefore maintain decent range, maximizing the effects their naturally high defense. The Cutter is a 90 degree ship, meaning its fastest at broad reach and has close haul capabilities, but is slower then most ships downwind. The other ship is the MC El Dragon Barque. Its main difference is its guns, it has a lot (for a ship of its level) of smaller caliber cannons, meaning it has surprisingly high DPS. The downside is the reduced range and accuracy means you have to get in closer to deal damage. This ship is also a 30 degree ship, which means it excels at close haul sailing but it suffers downwind. Both ships are good, the Cutter is typically chosen if you are going to be a group of small ships fighting against a larger enemy. The Dragon is better suited for 1v1 fights against ships of a similar class.

Hmm I'll try out the MC mediator then, think I'll likely run into bigger stuff more than other small stuff, if that goes badly barque I guess.
