Default Traitor and PB in 2.10

How are invitations to port battles going to change in 2.10? and are there going to be any changes to players being able to mark others traitors?

I was invited to a port battle, but didn't go for fear of being marked a traitor. The whole server was going on about "stay out if you don't have vent."

I've paid for this game, and I still pay for a subscription for this game, I have every right to join a port battle if I get invited to it even if I don't feel like downloading a chat program where squeeky voiced little boys scream in your ear, and not be flagged a traitor by people who have never payed for this game.

The point isn't even about vent, it's that I'm paying for a game and because the game's citizans are prejudice to anyone that doesn't use vent, that I can't enjoy every aspect of the game, such as a port battle.

It's a difficult situation. On the one hand you do have a right to play the game. On the other hand it is a team game and that team, or the majority of them, have specified vent as the minimum requirement for port battles.

I guess my main question is why don't you want to use vent? Being able to talk is not a requirement, so a microphone isn't necessary. I'm assuming you do have sound. You only have to use it for the duration of the port battle.

Ultimately this is a team game and so an amount of team work is expected especially in port battles. Otherwise how can you be expected to give and receive orders?

Question

If I may ask, what and how would you "enjoy" a PB without being able to communicate/understand what's going on ?

To be honest most players are closer to old crusties than little boys. Certainly at PB level.

Giving/responding to orders via in game chat is simply not practical and so PB commanders don't do it which means that without Vent/TS3 (whichever is being used) you are actually a detriment to your side. You won't be able to hear orders and asking for blocks/hats in game chat probably won't work either.

That being said you DO have the right to show up if you have the points (and if the PB isn't full you would probably be appreciated even without voice). I would like to say that nobody would flag you for turning up without voice any more than they would for not turning up in the "preferred" PB ship... but we all know there are a few players out there that will flag anybody for almost any reason (standing AFK in PR... flagged!).

As paul_kingtiger says actually being able to speak isn't really a requirement as long as you can hear and respond to orders. It all comes down to how much you want your side to win really. Just switch it off when the PB is over or the random jabbering WILL drive you crazy

If that is what you think we use vent for in PBs, I hope you keep staying out.

Why do you want to take part of a team game when you clearly are not a team player?

That is a bias statement, I am not an avid team player. I solo. But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the port battles. I may not agree with some of the methods but i do go with the flow.
usually at the cost of a ship ,not a biggy for me. But i agree , log on, listen, shut up, and follow, you will be fine. I personally never liked team sports.

Unfortunately, a port battle is a team effort in every way. The mechanics of fighting in a line require the group leaders to call targets, have buffs applied, and fire on volley for maximum effect. The ability to call for aid is also needed, so the team isn't reduced by the ship loss of your ship - or the ability for you to prevent the loss of a teammate. Just knowing when and in which direction the group is going to sail is needed, or you will find yourself out in limbo, the target of an enemy group, and no one around to assist you. Ventrilo is the norm for this nation because someone is paying for it, and providing it for us. THAT is team effort. Other Societies and nations have Teamspeak, or Ventrilo as well. Why handicap yourself?

You pay for the game, as do many of us. Is your right to not listen to squeaky voices more important than the 23 other people in the fleet being able to coordinate attacks and defense?

It is a team game at the PB level. If you cant deal with that and intentionally hazard the remainder of the fleet, maybe you should be flagged. I am personally tired of idiots not on vent that want to turn port when everyone else is told to turn starboard.

This "I don't wanna hear your squeaky voices" is basically the "GET OF MY LAWN KIDS" of this century, because kids no longer run around outside on lawns and old people who hate children now have to get on the internet to hate them there.
