France has won our server and as I understand it you can try another faction.
If I was to try pirate this time round would I need to destroy all my production setup before I move so that I have slots available?

No you can leave your french characters in limbo and create new production slots on your pirate.

France actually has not won yet, they can still lose if they don't win the upcoming defensive port battles.
