Default What Makes a Good Suggestion Thread?

One of the things I've been finding while going back to the start of this forum area to clean it is that there's a great variation in thread quality.

With that in mind, I thought I'd put together this simple step-by-step guide for making a good suggestions thread:
  • Make sure the idea hasn't been thought of already ~ unlike other areas of the forums, we will allow you to "necro" old threads in this forum area provided you have something valuable to add to the discussion. You can look by either looking at the Common Suggestions or to use the Search feature.
  • Have a good title ~ there's no point with a partial title that wanders off into nothing or a "my ideas" title as that makes no sense. As you can see by the title of this thread, I've stated clearly what it's about and the content within reflect this.
  • Have 1 thread for 1 suggestion ~ don't have 1 thread filled with an idea about game graphics followed by how you want improvements to pvp and then your idea for a new ship skill. For I will lock it and tell you to try again
  • Write your ideas clearly ~ there's nothing that makes the eyes of a developer bleed like seeing a massive wall of text with bad spelling and no formatting. The forums have a built in spell check tool (that ABC button in top right corner) that's there for you to use. Make sure that you have bullet points if there's parts to your idea so that we can review the idea quickly!
  • Read what you've written before clicking "Submit New Thread" ~ Ideas can very often be spur of the moment things, so once you've written down the idea, take a step back to read it. This way you can avoid falling into the above issues!
If you follow these simple steps you'll be on track for a good thread (like this one) and one day your idea may be picked for inclusion into game!

What follows below is a great player-written version of this, which has been saved for you all to read!

Default What Makes a Good Suggestion Thread?

First of all - as you may have noticed - this is not a suggestion, but please, feel free to spam '/signed' anyway.

After reading the suggestion box over the past two months it has become apparent to me that the amount of crap it contains absolutely dishonours the English language (or whatever language it is posted in), so I thought I would make a thread about how to make a Suggestion thread.

Things you should do:
~ Think long and hard about what this game needs and how one small change can help the experience for everybody

~ Allow feedback from the community to improve vital parts of your suggestion

~ Argue your point, but try not to troll, flame others or get personal with others

~ Respond positively to FLS commenting on your suggestion, because basically it means that they are sending your idea up the ladder

Things you should not do:

~Flame, troll and derail your own thread

~Abuse FLS feedback and their opinion on your idea

~Spill Coca Cola on your keyboard (it doesn't come out easily and you end up spamming keys and posting things you don't even think about)

___________________________

The best ideas come from players who understand what could benefit the whole game and not just their own gameplay, players who think before posting new suggestions and players that can strike a balance between 'red cordial kiddy' and 'Microsoft Sam'.

Suggestion ideas:

~ Player vs Player/Realm vs Realm suggestions
~ Economy suggestions
~ Streamlining of complex things
~ Things that involve carebears (everyone loves a carebear, but everyone hates Panda's)

Just a few things that can hopefully keep your thread from being locked or being deemed worthless crap.
