Heh, I am originally from WY and have been to Jackson Hole several times. Interesting place.

There is also a reason for not running away. When faced with any predator running away will 100% trigger an attack. They say for a brown bear attack to either play dead or to climb a tree. I say always carry a .45 when in bear country. At the very least repellent or someone slower than yourself. Black bears are a much more common bear for Wyoming and are not much of a threat. Usually only hear of brown bears or grizzly bears around the national parks.

Thanks to it's low population Wyoming is one of the few places in the contiguous US that still has unspoiled natural places. Free from commercial and free from dirty hippies. This is slowly changing due to the natural gas boom. I know a few ranchers that have stopped raising cattle and just collect royalty checks off the wells on their land.

In sweden we have alot of bears and alot of wilderness. It's generally not recomended to shoot at bears even if they look like they are about to attack like in the movie i posted. If that guy would have shot at the bear it would have triggered an attack unless he hit it directly in the brain. Bears have a very very smal area that you have to hit to stop it, through both lungs, the brain or the heart. If the bear is moving its almost impossible to hit it in those areas and any other place you hit it will just make it angry. The bear is very hard to kill or hurt enough to stop it because of how its bones and muscles covers its vital areas and its head is sloped.

If you want to hunt bears make sure you are the one that is attacking first. You cant hit it safely if its running. If you want to avoid confronting bears, learn to recognize signs and tracks that you are near them and make sure they know that you are there too so you dont accidently run into eachother, and if you think its a mother with cubs then try leave the area to not disturb them as the mother is likley to attack.
