Looking for some ides for POTBS I came across the story of the 44 gun indiaman Glatton.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Glatton_(1795) After being bought by the Royal Navy she was fully outfitted with 56 carronades (Upper deck - 28 x 32-pdr , Lower deck - 28 x 68-pdr ) one of the only ships to have this outfitting. For those that do not know a carronade is a shorter cannon that can fire a much heavier round than a cannon of the same weight. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carronade drawbacks are that these carronades where very inacurate, had a short range and a lower velocity. despite these drawbacks at close range the refitted glatton (now the 4th rate HMS glatton) delt more damage than a 1st rate. personally i think that such a ship put in the hands of a privateer would not just be fun to play but the bigger ship that the privateers desprately need. the only issue is that the ship and the carronades were not around untill 1770 a little later than the proposed date. i just thought that I would bring it up as the ship would really ffit a role that is lacking. Also being from Falkirk in Scotland the home of the carronade i would love to see it in the game ![]() |

I've always consider Einar's to be the-in game simulation of mounting carronades...

sorry after searching the forums Ive seen there was a similar thread about HMS Rainbow.
Id love to give one a go and was just trying to get some feedback on the Glatton. Also like I said im from the town that made these so it would be awsome to see in game but after reading the other thread seems like it wont ![]()

i'm loving how you think a ship with more firepower than a 1st rate is a good idea.
