Need help reworking a design!

I recently submitted this flag design, and it was rejected on grounds of era inappropriateness/ inaccuracy.

I'm pretty puzzled by this because I did my research before coming up with the design, I looked at images of heraldic designs and I did my best to copy an image of a heraldic dolphin:

Obviously I simplified it somewhat because I didn't want to have to copy it perfectly...So I'm curious as to how I can fix this so that I can keep my dolphin design, but update it so that it's appropriate and accurate. Should I make the dolphin more detailed? Should I change the colors or pattern of the background? I did look up heraldic colors and make my decision about them based on the information I found, by the way.
Anyway I like my design and I want to fix it so that I can use it in game. Any suggestions?

I'm confused as well. The design looks good for the period to me as well. Perhaps you could post a larger (128x85) version, maybe it was another issue. You can link it to your post using this comand...

Eliminate the spaces for it to work. The 12345 is where you add your designs User Content ID number. It is the last 5 digits of it's web address under My Content.

Ah, I don't have a larger version...that is the 128x85. Here it is from my user content page though.

Hmmm, well the only thing I can guess would be that the black lines/outlines don't look quite solid, more like they were drawn with a marker. Perhaps fill those in but everything else looks perfectly fine to me.

My guess is it was rejected due to looking cartoony.
