New Player question

Me and 2 friend's started playing a couple days ago as a 3 man group. So we where traveling through the open sea and we crossed through a pvp zone and one of my friends was attacked by another player. My questions is how do I join his fight and help him out, I tried getting in the fight but it wouldn't let me join, it said the fight was locked. I was told that there is a join fight timer, but I was right next too him when he was attacked so I tried joining the fight instantly and it wouldn't allow me too join him.

Same thing happened to the other guy I was grouped with while we waited for the first person to get out of the fight, a npc attacked my other group mate in a pvp zone and I also couldn't join that fight. Just wondering what we are doing wrong or whats the purpose of grouping if you can't fight together. I'm a free player just in case that makes any difference to why I can't join my group in open sea battles. We were able to join each others battles with no problem in non pvp areas but can't do anything together in pvp zones. Thanks

Well when you are traveling through a PVP zone (or more commonly known as the RED) you do not want to stray too far from your group members (10 mile is most optimum). If a enemy player tags your friend when he is to far away the battle will lock 1v1 so that no one can gank or counter gank a player

Thanks for the information. I'll have to try this next time I sail around then.
