Cool Privateer Pirate Folklore

Hi Everyone,

Came across this & thought I would post it for anyone to read.

Please do post any interesting links, Privateer/Navy/Pirate Folklore you may come across here.

16-19 Century Sea battles, ship wrecks etc, makes for a good read.

I liked that story and I will have to find out what happens. Thanks Ducky

Did you know the old nursery rhyme "sing a song of sixpence" was a recruiting song used by Blackbeard?

Edit: This freaked me out!, couple lines from the article >

Commanded by Captain Duck she sailed for the New World on February 12, 1805 having been given a twofold commission by her owner, a Mr. Robert Bent of London.

After leaving Hawaii in September under the command of Mr. Brown,..........leaking badly and having already witnessing the death of her captain.

Am I getting trolled from the past or what?

I know, I know, Im's going Nuts!!!

the first article is fairly interesing but its just ok i think, although i am often too hard on some journalism. it could be much better written and seems they try set up this awesome situation with the sunken wreck based on one possibly biased and enthused source but then they get to the second source (2 in one article is the bare, bare minimum anyways, but aussie journalism is usually quite bad) who has seen it and they say its pretty much scattered around and probably not that much intact loot left there. i just heard of tonga and its an interesting place as the entire island is much smaller than my town , and strangely its known as the 'friendly island' because english captain cook described the locals as being very friendly, when they were actually secretly plotting a scheme to try capture and eat him and his crew. i heard of tonga because there is some mma fighter who is doing well as an aussie chump beater who was supposed to fight arlovski but made a good choice in backing out, it was a fight i was looking forward to seeing but it was a smart move on his part.

this website is pretty entertaining in my opinion, the jokes are often hit or miss, and fairly historically accurate , and there are tons of stories about pirates and privateers, plus other cool stuff that is worth reading i had never heard about before. here are just a few that i randomly found

http://www.******oftheweek.com/drake.html
http://www.******oftheweek.com/lollonais.html
http://www.******oftheweek.com/morgan.html

it actually wont let me post the links but the ***'d out word is 'badyss' where y is an a , its not really a curse but uhh guess you'd need to do some work to view them. worth it if you enjoy the , possibly bad but i think its funny, humor and history combo.

a bit dark, but a pretty cool wikipedia page. there is an item ingame that references him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Montbars
