On the flip side, if you don't sink his ship he is more likely to come back and try to run the zone again. If you sink his ship he is more likely to avoid the zones completely removing any possible targets for you.

It also makes your a griefer since you're intention is to cause another person distress and also to gain enjoyment from the misery of others. That is the classic definition of a griefer.

I don't get enjoyment out of ruining someones day...like I said the majority of the time Im the nice person that will accept your surrender. But if I somehow manage to beat someone 1 on 1 whos piloting a ship that I know can play a heavy role in a port battle or pvp in general Im probably not going to think twice about sinking him/her or taking the ship. I don't want to keep people from pvping all together, but anyone going into pvp should accept that there are risks involved. If you don't have an understanding about it and you're going to complain everytime something doesn't go your way...just don't pvp.

Historically not every (Im gonna keep with my pirate theme here) would slaughter your crew if your ship was taken over. In all reality your crew members were more likely to go turncoat and join up with the pirate after realizing they were doomed. "If you can't beat'em, join'em." Pretty sure you've heard the cliche'.

As I said before, surrender is an option not a guarantee. If the person you're fighting is after your ship...it doesn't matter what you offer them because you can't give them what they're after. Id be a little more understanding if and only if a 100% surrender included your ship...but as far as I know it doesn't. There's nothing wrong with the system as it stands. It's a personal option to use it, accept it, or competely ignore it.
If I (level 25) am in a battle with a level 50 or as it happened 3 level 50s and could not outrun them and the would not except surrender, as was the case, I would have liked to have had the option to blow my ship up and board the long boats with my crew. I knew I had no chance in to come out of this fight because it was too unbalanced. Give me the option to blow my ship up with all cargo so that next time maybe the Pirate gank will be reasonable.
