Ok, for starters, im not trying to whine, cry, or any of that. I know being flagged gives you no aggro and more speed in the open-sea.
However, for PvP reasons, it is an extremely poor system. I dont mind losing my ship and being ganked by 5 people--but when I attack a player 1v1 head-on, how would the devs even come up with the idea that it would be a great idea to have NON-flagged people just randomly joining the fight?? To me, that is just an unacceptable thing to do in a game like this, but that's just me. I know a lot others feel that way, and I was hoping this would change it. I love pvp'ing, and I know there are repercussions to it, as there should be--that's not what bothers me. But for once, I'd love a CHANCE of winning in a fight where I can at least fight DOWN to TWO people at the same time, as I like solo pvp'ing from time to time...you should not be forced to group pvp. I played SWG and liked the covert/overt system, even though I was always flagged, but in this game, I dunno...it's just different...probably because losing your ship can be a big pain. Non-flagged enemies that join the battle late start out wherever they want, even though they would be 20 miles away when the fight started. 1v1 quickly turns to 5v1. So why would anyone other than me (because I am stubborn and refuse to take my flag off) want their flag ON? To me, this just makes no sense whatsoever, and I hope they change it somehow. I know there are others that agree with me...at least I hope? Enemies can travel really far distances in the 60 seconds they are alotted....... |

This has been discussed highly before and there is a mixed opinion on it. My take is simply that flag opens you up to everyone. Yeah it sucks to get attacked by non-flagged players but you're basically making it so everyone can attack you, like a NPC in other words. I always say that, that flag is not meant to provide a fair-fighting ground and never will be. Most people won't play 1v1 and hell some won't even 2v1. People will fight if they know they will win because they don't want to lose their ship or their things. Me, I'm okay with the flag as it is. If I want to win some PvP I can find random people who're bored and will go out looking for players to beat on. I don't wear a PvP solo and probably never will. That's just me though. Things will be much different when the 22nd rolls around. It's going to be a blast. At least for some...I expect a lot of crying/complaining to go up when popular ports get red rings around them.

Yeah, I posted this in the wrong section, and I see it's been covered a lot. I understand pvp is not always fair, as well as wearing the flag, and even the classes/careers--they should not be.
But to me, it just does not make sense...if non-flagged people want to join in, fine! But to me it just does NOT make sense that they can enter the fight being so many miles away...there should be a decreased timer, a decreased range, or some kind of sea-battle range penalty. But you are definitely right about the release...it will be much easier to find solo pvp'ers, but the system is just still flawed in my opinion with people joining in a battle from so far away.

Non-flagged people only have 60 seconds in which to join the battle. So if you see someone targeting you, or you target someone else who's flagged, make sure there aren't other players within 60 seconds sailing time of your position.
Some people cry because their group mates can't get into fights within 60 seconds to help them, and they want that time extended. If they had their way, more non-flagged players would be able to join ad-hoc fights because they'd have more time to get into them.

Given how you can go ~300 miles in 60 seconds with good wind and current that's pretty much impossible.

![]() Half the people here want the timer reduced, so that no-one else can join the battle. The other half want the timer increased, so all their group mates can join their battles. Does no-one understand what "balance" is? I think the devs have got it just about right.

Your ship would have to be travelling at just over 200 knots to travel 300 miles in a minute. I haven't heard of anyone getting their ship to that speed. At 110 knots you could travel 150 miles in 57 seconds. The problem is that at that range you wouldn't know where the battle marker is since it wouldn't be displayed at that distance.

The reason that i put the flag on is that i know that people will attack me. However my group mates also know this so they stay back, wait for someone to attack me and then attack them. Thus we have the advantage when the intial attacker or attackers thought it would be 3vs1 it is now 3vs5 or whatever the group cap is
