Default My role feels completely wrong

As a Naval Officer, I am effectively relegated to cash grinding and powerleveling.

If I PvP, I generally need to bring a Lancer, seeing as that is all I stand a chance to get away in. Assuming I green it all out, of course, and still the only reason I get away is basically because "no one does 90 degrees". After all, it's useless to catch anything with, so it is basically only useful for the "run like a school girl at first sight of a real enemy"-type.

If I try to bring a heavy ship - like you might expect a Naval Officer to excel at - I am pretty short on options. I could bring my Alex, and basically be a brick with decent firepower. We all know how well bricks do in water. Any higher a rate ship than that is way too expensive for the average naval officer to own, much less use for OS PvP, which is prone to group splitting, disconnects etc.

I essentially have no frigate options that even come close to a heavy herc or a pirate herc, which means that I end up as the light-weighter in any heavy group. Oh, but I still don't have speed, that would be... well, basically every other class. So I am the slowest and the lightest.

This represents the pinnacle of military technology? Any rag-tag band of pirates trivially schools any trained naval officer, in a commissioned ship, with a trained crew? My main role seems to be to powerlevel the privs and FTs so they can do the real job, as well as grinding cash for ships for both the above classes. Good times.

Oh, I am sure there are naval officers that are enjoying their 1st rate in port battles. Sadly we dont have more than a battle or two a week on my server, and I don't have a 1st rate anyway. So what about the rest of us lowly naval officer that didn't quite make admiral yet (99% of us)? Isn't the whole "1-on-1 ship combat, once you catch up to those elusive other classes, Navy kicks your ***" the idea behind the class?

I feel somewhat the same. However, I'd add that I've never liked that within the game I've always felt more like a hired gun, rather than a real naval officer. They could have done a number of things to make it more like a military profession and I think it still would have been popular (maybe even more so). Unfortunately they made them just a different type of privateer that relies on being a group player instead of being able to go it alone. Privateers are you solo performers, naval is group only. And that is soo unfortunate.

In a way, I guess it is the national version of the Buccaneer and Cutthroat.

And what about Freetraders, now being told that PvP is the only way to play the game?

what about FTs?

miss the memo where they'll be getting the HH in 1.4?

they'll be nigh on unsinkable with their repairs.

NOs are unhappy, therefore they are selfish? You're like a modern day einstein.

My role feels totally wrong only way as a ft for me to level is to grind missions, missions to blow up ships and swashbuckling now don't get me wrong i like a little now and again but if i wanted to do that i would play one of the other professions.

As a ft i should be carting cargo around globe, buying low and selling high, running supplies through blockades and making stuff none of these give exp and i don't feel like a ft the way the game is setup.

I also believe that ft should be the only class able to make items from raws, don't care if everyone can harvest raws but finished products should be the domain of ft.

Also i would like to see ammo removed as a reward for pennants and commendations thats the main reason why ammo sales are almost non existant for heavy round shot.

I don't feel like a pirate. Instead of helping to cause more mayhem on the seas we have to fight the same silly port battles, have the same victory conditions and have to win at least 50 port battles. People complain that Pirate ships of all things should not be the fastest and most overload with cannons on the seas.

Pirates make the least amount of coin because we get all these free ships. Whoopee, we don't get Pirate, Heavy, Sleek, Herc for free. Our loot drops are nerfed, we cant make advanced structures. I can't tell you the last time I needed a free ship. Our upgrades cost just the same.

I guess all classes are messed up.

Mr. NO come to Antigua, I need another Dur on my lancer. We have many that use 90 degree ships. SOL's are lineships and should not be taken in to pvp alone. A good way to lose it. Lineships always had support ships with them. Try a Mercy?

NOs can compete in 6v6 just fine. Pirates can always run away but that doesn't mean NOs are completely broken by itself. Other nationals have access to the same classes and ships as you do. Dodge the Pirate HH/PH groups, keep OS PvPing and stop crying about NOs being underpowered. If you want to keep playing the game, that is.

You're also gimping yourself by rolling in those failboats all the time. You might get some kills in and farm some MoVs but you're not competing. You're just ganking and you're not getting any better at 6v6 doing it.

You can do all of this a little (or a lot) better than the other classes. Why you occupy your time with something else I don't know and it's not FLS' fault. Are you complaining about leveling? In that case I have no sympathy whatsoever. This is probably THE most forgiving MMO as far as leveling goes and FTs aren't gimped at it either.
