In response to Alex:
I, too, hoped this game would be more of a simulation and less of a game. But it was not to be.

I'd vote to eliminate them, or to make them a more gradual improvement over normal frigates. (In terms of power as well as cost.)

honestly, I don't get why they went the way they did. If all you had to do was flesh out the three major skill trees in percentages, when it mixed with ship type and outfitting it would be nearly impossible for players to find the one uber match (especially if you couldn't re spec skills every ten minutes with the click of a button) . On top of that if you just threw in a wind change in combat, changes in the way a ship handles in certain seas, hell then it really would be man against man because no one could predict every battle before it began.

I think the game would be far better without 3rd-1st rate SOLs. As a result of their rediculous cost, we have dozens of people standing on docks doing grind missions instead of out there mixing it up with the enemy. I don't see any way that that could be a good thing for the game. During Map 1, we had the occassional individual grinding toward that goal, but for the most part everyone was out there in OS PvP and 4th rates were the standard for PBs. Since the merger, there has been incredible pressure to stop making OS PvP equipment and start grinding to catch up with the new folks. The fact that some of the new folks apparently judge skill based on this grind race is just icing on the cake. We'd be much better off with balanced skillsets and ships.

Loss is good, losing a 4th rate is a right sized hit to the pocketbook that will make you improve your playstyle next time. Losing something that took 2-4 weeks to grind is sillyness.
You cannot have loss based pvp and epic endgame grinding for gear that you will lose. It simply doesn't work and should be re-thought. Perhaps a few years down the road, we are all so rich these are balanced - but I doubt we will get over this particular bump in the timeline. It's just not fun to get, pvp and lose rated ships and you should never sail a ship you aren't willing to lose. |

If Taelorn had been right all along, this game would have 11 servers with heavy population.

It does seem good, however all it means is that pirates are still irrelevant in rvr in bigger ships.
Can we solve the problem of an entire nation having no endgame first? |
