Why not? I'm willing to let a backpedal go, but this needs to be addressed.

I don't agree with you, but arguing about it for the 19th time doesn't sound like much fun. It's not a backpedal, I simply don't respect your opinion.

As to the quoted part, didn't say what I meant properly - here's what makes more sense.

"Being faster downwind does not allow you to stop the Privateer from dictating range, it does allow you to escape downwind."

Or, if you prefer,

"Being faster broad reach does not allow you to stop the Pirate from dictating range, it does allow you to escape at broad reach."

Both classes can choose to engage at whatever range they want, and escape as they please. If the pirate is chasing, then the privateer dictates and vice versa.

So does 87% of your post count, but you don't see us complaining.

No, the faster class dictates range because they can close to the range they want and stay there even if the other class tries to run. In this context, if the rat has the weather gauge, he will keep the initiative the entire battle. If the priv has it, the priv can run but cannot force the rat to stay where he wants it (as the rat can always go downwind). In neither instance can the priv force range, while the rat can.

So you are backpedaling to say that Pirate Herc is a better ship if the pirate attacks with the weather guage?

In that case, The MC Hermes is a better ship if it attacks a 1st rate from behind.

Donkey.

No, I'm saying the Pirate Herc is the best 1v1 OS supremacy fighter in the game, with no qualifications. The fact that a trader's sloop can outrun it doesn't change that -- we are talking about battle here. As for dictating range, with ships this close its probably not decisive either way, but its surely not an advantage for a priv in a MCH.

The MC Herc is the best 1v1 ship in the game, hands down. The margin that this ship is better than the pirate herc is minimal and comes down to the risk involved in the battle itself.

Thanks for sharing your opinion, I'd trade my PH for an MC Herc instantly and I'd be right to do so. Where the MC Herc loses in close range damage, it wins all around in dominant 1v1 fighting as well as greater viability in port battles and group fights.

Nice try.

Nah, you just think that because you're bad at the game.
