Default Mailboxes

Well, I have a small idea that I think would make the game more comfortable to play. I play on Roberts and yet live in the US of A and sometimes it's hard to find time to get with my society. Recently, I was thinking, after ordering a ship from my society, how much easier it would be for this transaction to go if FLS implemented "Mailboxes/Drop off boxes" for the players to use. Let’s say I buy a ship from a friend. He can come to one of my economy ports (let's say its Bridgetown) and drop off the deed in my "Mailbox" When I visit Bridgetown I will automatically get a message saying "Hey! You have mail" Also, it would be good if we could get messages from any port saying that you have mail. So when I open my mailbox it says "Nobby Nobs"(My Shipbuilder friend)" Has given you a deed to a ‘Raa’ Heavy Frigate. Do you accept his offer for 8000 doubloons?" I would either say yes or no. If I say no, the deed is transferred straight to any ship that he has designated it should go back to. If i say yes, money is instantly transferred to his pocket. In both of these cases, he is notified.

Well? Any other ideas?

First of all please use another font colour. The black is hard to read without marking it

It sounds a bit like society warehouses which are something that is worked on for a later build I think.

But the idea of this is somewhat like trading without the person being logged on. It would make tranasactions easier between people who lived in different time zones

Yes, this would be great for friends that aren't on at the same time.
But it (as can society warehouses/AH) can cause more society lock-in trades, making the normal AH possibly hardly used anymore.

In my humble opinion MMOs are meant to be played together, so join a society with people playing at the same time.

Aren't those two sentences contradictory? If you think there's too much "lock-in trades" with resultant less use of AH, why tell someone to join a society with people playing at the same time (since it would help to solve OP's problem).

They might seem to be, but they are not really. This feature would not only be used in that specific situation (friends not online at the same time). But also in many more situations.

The idea of having some way to trade goods, funds or deeds through a mail system would be ideal as most mmo's out there have this feature. However I believe FLS designed the game without one to prevent players from using alts to fuel their FT warehouses and coin to mass produce in turn monopolizing or lowering the costs of production.

Then I think that over and wonder WHY THE HELL didn't they implement such a system as mail transfer. Its hard enough as it is to build and transport things across the seas. In the end products would become a little cheaper and more plentiful to find. Although seeing it from their perspective. It would eliminate the necessity of the Free Trader having to build and transport goods to key locations to build. One would just simply Produce, mail and be done with it canceling out the need to cross the open sea and pretty much lay ruin to the Pirate Nations who's sole purpose is robbing those player conveys of the goods.

At which point I think the ENTIRE pirate nation would have to be revamped to mimic the other three nations in order to BALANCE *lets not forget our favorite word* them into Port Battles, Contention and Flipping Ports.

It would drive a hard wrench into the core of the game and we would ALL be facing an entirely new game with more people leaving, a lot of new nerfs, new buffs and all around disaster!

I totally support some form of mail/bank/warehouse transfer I absolutely love it in other MMO's. But in reality such a divine thing would be the fire in which this game would slowly burn to ash.

What I didn't remark before but will now, is that this mail idea here has some point others usually don't make.

It actually requires people to ship goods themselves (or the other party involved). Money still goes AuToMagically though.

Then what you are describing is a buy order system, not a mail system. Where your friend posts that he is willing to buy 1000 oak logs for 1 doubloon each. You his friend, sails the 1000 logs to the port where he posted his order, you select the order and he gets his logs (which you transported there) and you get the money he put into escrow to cover the buy order.
