Unhappy Problem with crash's especially on the open seas

Ive looked around and found lots of difference response's to my problem/similar problems, trouble is i have no idea what i can do to stop/reduce the problem. Usually im sailing on the open seas or in an instance, the screen freezes, then the screen goes blank, and only thing i can do is reset my pc. I sent an error report to microsoft, it came up with:

"You received this message because a device driver installed on your computer caused the Windows operating system to stop unexpectedly. This type of error is referred to as a "stop error." A stop error requires you to restart your computer.

Solution
There are two options you can use to try to fix the problem. If the first option doesn't work, then try the second.
Option 1: Install the most current device driver for your video card
* Go to the Microsoft Update website to see if there are any updated drivers for your video card. If there are any drivers listed, you should install them.
* If there are no updated drivers listed at Microsoft Update, and you know the manufacturer of the video card, contact the card manufacturer's product support service for assistance.
* If there are no updated drivers at Microsoft Update, you don't know the name of the manufacturer of the video card, and you need more help diagnosing and resolving this problem, contact your computer manufacturer's product support service.
Option 2: Manually decrease Hardware Acceleration for your video adapter"

Video drivers are updated, dont have problems with any other games. As i said before there is alot of information out there on these problems, i just dont know what is relevant, and if someone could shed some light on my problem i would be most grateful

Ok tried a couple of things to help the problem, uninstalling/reinstalling drivers for my graphics card, again , tried playing windowed mode, that made the game run worse and still crashed.

And most recently tried again, was going to follow advice i found saying to exit in a port then log back in a minute or so later, 20-25 minutes in, i crash in an instance, only 1 npc left, but my ship pretty shot up. Once i had restarted, logged in, i was there stood in port. I am really frustrated now, the game is nigh on unplayable, and to add to insult, all durability i have lost in the game (apart from one on my default), has been due to my pc crashing. I will add, about 5 seconds after getting my "Xebec" corsair and fully outfitting it, i crashed in open seas, logged back in under attack, figured i could win the battle, 5 minutes later crashed again, logged in ship dead.

The crashes don't seem to be related time-wise, ive had 3-4 hours fine before, and crashing every 5-30 mins at the most extreme. Graphic options don't seem to change it in any way, on default it crashes just as much as "performance" settings do. I'm not very happy at the moment with my experience so far, i love the game, i just cant play it the way it was meant to be played. If anyone has any ideas what will help, please tell me, i REALLY just want to be able to get on and play.

Hi,

Do you have other 3D games that you play successfully? I'm curious because I noticed in your DXdiag that you're on an AGP port, and I'm wondering if you have that set up correctly. Specifically, on some PCs, I've had to have a specific driver for the AGP port, and sometimes I've had to go into the bios to set a different size for it. Either of these things could result in you a) running slowly or b) crashing unduly.

Friend of mine had intermittent problems with his Radeon X1950 PRO ... would play most games just fine, and others it would crash out Windows intermittently. We googled around, and one of the things we found was the X1950 prefers a power supply of around 450 plus.

He went and purchased a new power supply for his box. He'd had a 400W, and then installed a 500. Soon as he did, the problems went away.

Am not sure if this is a possible fix for you, but it might be something to look at.
