Default Transparency in Photoshop is kicking my butt

After piecing together an image, I right-click the layer(s), go to blending options, move the sliders to the point that anything I don't want to show up, becomes transparent, but, when I save and view the image, there's a super then white border around the image..

Could someone please lend some advice, this is driving me crazy.

Much obliged

You may want to try using the eraser tool, select each layer and wipe over the white marks that appear. you will eventually find the layer it is on or wipe it from each layer as it could be on several.

another way to fix it if the eraser may be cumbersome is to do the following;
1. select all (ctrl-a)
2. Select -> Modify -> Contract, type in 1 or 2 pixels.
3. invert the selection (ctrl+shift+i)
4. select the top layer + press Delete, select the next layer + press delete, etc.

Though im not sure i understand how that happened.

Thank you all for your time and great responses.

I feel kind of silly.. after a little tedious use of the eraser around the borders, I cleaned it all up pretty well... lol

Thank you all again
