I play pirate on Blackbeard, and as any pirate knows Marsh Harbour is suk central for lag when the servers get just a little crowded.
Now Ive been wondering if the lag I suffer is from the audio or from drawing the avatars (NPC and PC)? The reason I'm saying that is I notice when I turn in a quest, the quest completion music lags me to hell and back, drops my FPS to .50, I'm guessing. And its just not shuddering FPS, it key-click/button lag too. I cant rotate the camera until the music stops playing, once that stops then everything is fine. I find that very odd. Like most people I adjusted the number of visible avatars (40 and less). But....their audio is still there. For example, when I'm by the pirate trainer in the fountain square, I can still hear the fiddlers playing and people talking even though the avatars arent there. I remember the devs talking about the music causing some of the lag and it would be fixed at release, I'm guessing it was boarding party release, because its nowhere near as bad as it use to be. I'm just wondering if what we're (I'm) suffering thru isnt video card drawing lag, but maybe an audio bug causing lag? Or maybe a combo of both? (yes, I have a better than average PC) Mainly I'm just curious why the audio sticks around when the avatars arnt drawn/loaded/whatever. And if that could be part of the problem.

I often get lag in ports. It's usually not to the point of being completely unplayable, but on rare occasion it is very bad (as in "run for cover like the port is being shelled, bad.").
I have enclosed my dxdiag and Pirates options to aid in diagnosis. Hope they help. |

The fix is in the new patch notes which I believe is coming out around release.

yes a society colleage has told me, that if he turns off music (slider to the left until it shows 0), then the town lag is gone like magic! I tried it out and it also works for me!
So I think the music really is one of the reasons for lags. Not only in town but also in crowded quests or also when boarding a ship sometimes. Should be fixed as soon as possible becaus for me the game looses very much athmosphere with music turned off ![]() |

Gonna post this here as it is about music.
When you turn in a quest and level from it, 2 musics play at the same time. That's when I have trouble. Maybe get rid of the quest tone and leave the level?

Was there ever a solution to port lag? I tried turning my music off, and it did not help hat all. I have no lag problems in any other part of the game. The only spot is when I enter ports and a little when running around corners in ports. I turned my max # of avatars on screen to 40. It did not help.
AMD 4500+, 2Gigs, 8600GTS When my music is on, there is a definite and distinct skipping of the music when I log into the server and when I enter ports or buildgings. |
