I never noticed this, but I'm sure it's just me not really paying attention. I hate dismasting anyways.

But stone shot is too powerful, imo, particularly in the hands of pirates with Slaughter Their Crew and Sweep The Decks (it is pretty good for NOs to use with URR too, but NOs are likely to think of using URR to maximise hull damage).

I don't think it will take a great deal to tip stone shot out of favour. Perhaps reduce the range to 90% (the same as bar shot) and increase the accuracy penalty to perhaps 4% or 5% - it does seem daft that explosive has a bigger accuracy penalty than stone.
It also wants a nerf to hull damage, perhaps to 30% - 60% (the same as basic shot) - or possibly keep the armour damage at 40% - 80% but considerably nerf the structure damage to ... 20% - 40% perhaps. After all the reason stone shot is so damaging to crew is because it breaks up when striking the hull; rather than converting kinetic energy into hull damage it converts it into fragmenting the cannonball.

Incidentally, the crossover point when canister does more crew damage than grape is less than 100 yards on all ships (or practically all of them at any rate), and both canister and grape are better than langridge at all ranges. If you want to use langridge to keep the enemy demasted then fine, but if he isn't demasted already then Sail DR will probably eat all the additional sail damage langridge imparts; even canister and grape give 1 sail damage per hit.
Thank you.

I was rather thinking about reducing the crew damage tho.

Thumbs down Stone shot!!

I hate Stone shot, It takes the privy crew out to easy from distance, forcing the priv to retreat.

I thought about this and reckoned the crew damage by itself was reasonable enough; it is only 10%-14% after all, and has been for as long as I remember.

Certainly it is devastating with Sweep the Decks, but I think that may point to the skill being too strong rather than the ammo. But how can nats argue for the nerf of a pirate anti-crew skill when Privs have Terrorize?

I suppose the question is whether we are happy for there to be a long-range anti-personnel shot. I don't see why there should not be, but the trouble with stone is that it combines significant crew damage with 67% (max range) - 80% (min range) of bronze's hull damage. These percentages are too high in my opinion. It is true that stone suffers an accuracy penalty compared with bronze, but I don't think 3% (max range) - 1% (min range) is enough to make much of a difference.

At one stage stone had a lower range (97.5%) than other round shots, even basic. I wonder why it was changed.

I think Stone is generally ok, but crew are very easy to kill compared to damaging an opponent's ship. Terrorize is a bit silly, but the effect is short-lived, the range short, the crew regeneration bonus substantial, and the cooldown relatively long.

As a privateer, I can tell you that I'd trade in terrorize and my left little toe (maybe both little toes) for the buccs Sweep the Decks.

Off topic, but if I need to keep with career skills, I'd give up Terrorize in a second for the buccs Dark as Night or Master of Pursuit.

As a fellow Privateer, I agree.
