Why is the Level of Details options so limited? Even maxed, you have to zoom extremely close in order to see most of the ship main details. Staying at a normal distance will cause really poorly optimized models to be displayed with a lots of graphical issues.
As far as I know, we should be able to maximize this setting if we wish to, it does not require additionnal textures or models, just additionnal power on our hand. Even if you are almost completly zoomed in, most of the ship detail will be gone : http://i40.tinypic.com/anoies.png http://i39.tinypic.com/2cenep4.png I will probably look at the config files and try to hack my way around because there has to be a way to make this looks better |

There is a few commands you can use to change the LOD's.
Note that using this can cause extreme lag if your cpu/gpu ain't up to it when there is a lot of ships. I forget the exact name of the command but if you look through the pirates.ini you will find references to LOD, which are the commands basically. In game if you type uhm /h LOD it should show you a list of the commands with the words LOD in it. You can then set it how you want IN game, It wont save those settings if you exit game however afaik. AFAIK (or remember anyways) the slider for detail does change this, however you can make it higher or lower than the slider lets you with this command and a couple of others. |

The reason is that the models in PotBS are massively more detailed than any other ship game there is. The polygon budget is 2k polies per metre of ship, which is about double what Akella are used to making for an ENTIRE model. That is before you add sails, cannons, crew etc; and the environment. The graphics look dated because they are; but the level of detail is pushing the engine to its limit already.

The pirate.ini does seems to have what I was looking for, I will only be able to try it tonight though, but I am fairly sure that it will do the trick. Thanks ![]() |

Tried the in-game commands, creating and editing pirates_local.ini.... nothing work. It is simply a value, it should be easy to do, I don't even know why the default values are so low anyway.
I mainly increased the [ShipGraphicsBudget] and [ShipLodTable] but like I said, the game doesnt seem to take any modification from the local file. |

When you are in game type in the chat box:
/setlod 0.1 If you have a widescreen you can change the field of view by typing: /fov 100 |
