Default A Good Idea!

I think we should be able to put our names to the created products, especially ammos, weapons and ships. example: me and my friend each rides a postillineon, his doesnt do that well but mine kicks ****. reason being i have it outfitted with X cannon, X sail X hull etc.
imagine if i can have the option to customize ships into such aspects, sign it and sell it off as 'xxx factory produced'. of course the customized gears would only be known to me what it is, to the players they will only see probably nothing. this will enable other players to say things like 'get a (name) made postillineon, he makes great ships'. this can apply to ammos too. imagine using X quantity/ amount of ingot and X amount of black powder gives different bonuses to ammos! or using certain quality of iron to make guns gives different quality of outfittable guns!

wouldnt it be cool?

No it wouldn't be cool. It would make the auction unnecessarily complex since now it has to display who created every item. Which means when a ship builder post 15 ship deeds his name shows up 15 times, multiply that by dozens of ship builders and scanning through the auction would be a nightmare. It also would reduce the number of people getting involved in the market. People will only start buy the goods from the players with a reputation for producing the best. Making it really hard for someone to get started in the market and leading them to not produce because no one wants to buy their lower quality product or they don't have the name recognition. The economy of this game requires that alot of people participate and that who you are buying goods from remains anonymous. I'd hate to see the game ruined just to satisfy somebody's ego.

Then we'd have to have different qualities of iron, smelted at different temperatures. And different qualities of oak spars, that are cut, trimmed, and cured differently. Don't forget qualities of sugar grown in varying qualityes of soil, and qualities of rum made from those qualities of sugar. It would be far too complex.

honestly i never thought of the ego issue, it has nothing to do with ego imo. in fact i think you have more ego problem then u claim its gonna give. seems like you hate more to see another persons ego being promoted over yours.

in fact, this is the only game that doesnt give the maker of an item his/ her mark. i dont see 'ego' arising from other games like ac, wow, uo. why should you?

macfarlanjames:
why not think of it the other way round, instead of friends or someone u know telling you 'hey why does your postillineon do so much damage, how did u outift it' and you start telling them 'blah blahblah', you could've straight away said 'want me to build you one?'
well if its handled properly i dont see much of a issue of complexity honestly. it can still ride on the current system, not much complexity is needed. we're not going to go down to the extend of temperature, heating etc etc....

Ego issue aside (it does manifest itself through maker marks), the idea itself is bad for the game because it makes one person's goods better than another and thus people will forgo the unknown name for the known making it much harder for a new person to find their place in the market. The fewer people that are participating in the market the scarcer products will become and then the few people that are making the best things will command the pricing and result in the riduculous inflation seen in other games.

Not to mention the complexity added to the auction house. It is a burdensome system that would only be of benefit to those with name recognition.

ok you said theres not ego problems on the games. On my server in SWG i tried to get into the crafting /ecnomy and was shut out because my stuff didn't sell. I couldn't figure out why until i found out that only 1!!!!1 thats right 1 person was getting all the credits. They allowed for you to name the items u created but the only thing people wnated to buy was so and so's items because he was the first to sell it to the guy who will spread the story all over the galaxy ( in our casde the Carribean). I agree i think that would really ruin this game for the fact of who makes the best ships/other things.
