Default Refit Explanation?

Can someone explain what a refit is and how to refit your ship?

I keep hearing about it but cant find a definite answer.

Thanks

edit, i am assuming it is different then Outfitting a ship.

You don't "refit" a ship you already have.

How it works is you aquire the basic ship deed for your class refit.
Then you get a refit item from the capital city (Normal takes MoV's).
Then you trade both the refit item and the ship deed for the refit ship deed.
Each class uses different base ships and they get their class specific ship in exchange.

Its been a while since I tried this though.. Freetraders dont have this option so basing in on myr Priv alt.

The Refit Ships are, slightly (but only slightly) more powerful for there level.

And yes you generally trade in Marks of Victory, and a ship deed, for the Refit ship. But get the marks first... then visit your port capital and figure out which ship deed you need. Not all ships have refits.

You are dealing with two different subjects: Refit Ships and "Refitting a ship" - which is really Outfitting a ship.

Outfitting a ship (or as some may call it, refitting): Each ship has specific "Outfit Slots" that you can place outfitting into (General, Sail, Gun and Hull). The general outfittings you can mix and match at will using the Harbor Master in any port, the other three however are permanently added and the only way to change them is to throw your current ones away. (So chose carefully and think ahead). If you are sunk you will lose whatever outfittings you have in your three permenant catagories but keep your general (I think) - along with all unsecured cargo (including ship deeds you happen to be hauling). You will often times hear people say they are "refitting thier ship" because they want to change what they currently have slotted.

Refit Ships: As stated above, they are ships that are "Slightly" better for thier level but not exceedingly so. The developers realized that a portion of thier playerbase would be "Hardcore" players who will do just about anything for even the most miniscule edge (not a slam, just a description) so thier answer was the Refit Ships. They are slightly better but nothing a skilled captian in a different ship couldn't take out and because they are based on Marks of Victory; they really have to work for that edge.

Hope that helped

Just a FYI some of the refits are MASSIVLY better then their core version.. some are only a bit better.

The Navy Lancer for example is perhaps the best small ship in the game. The Expedition packs a huge punch on a fast frame. Both of these are good refits.

Is there a list of ships that can be refit?

I dont quite agree with CanisNoir on the refit.

I think once a player has found a ship that they like, they'll always want to keep it longer, if possible upgrade it along with their character. For me, I love the Xebec. I tried better ships but the Xebec is still my favorite so I really wanted to upgrade it to the MC Xebec because the only thing better than a Xebec is a faster more powerful Xebec!

The other aspect too is that ship being so expensive, it's hard to just "try them" which encourages players to keep any given ship longer (therefore be more likely to want to give it more oooomph!).

I think at low level ship upgrades should be much easier and/or cheaper.

The Polacre refit doesn't seem to work at the moment. If you want one there is a point in the main quest line where you can get one (and only one) refit poleacre.

It's not a list per-se but all refits can be found on one of these two pages:

There's a recipe book for the Algiers Polacre -- its not just a free quest refit.

On that note, I love the refit version. I started w/ my newest ship -- a Sleek Raa, and I don't like it as much as the Algiers for pve/mob grinding, even tho the Sleek Raa is more hardier, but of course the comparison is between a L25 Fast Scout ship vs a L36 Fast Warship w/ grappling/boarding as my preferred method. Players seem to either love or hate the Algiers Polacre so am not sure if it'd really be worth putting into production, besides teh fact that NO's get one refit of it for free via the quest line. Might simply be worth it to put the Polacres into production first w/ the occasional Algiers refit thrown out there on the ah.
