Cant get past server screen or char select? Look here.

I know you're hoping for me to post a solution. I can't yet but i am working on it. I've spent my free time in the past two days trying to troubleshoot my connection issues. I'm sure others are experiencing similar issues so once i find a solution i want to be able to spread the word.

I'd like to know how many of you have an issue similar to mine, i think it may be related or confused with the people who are trying to play on college campuses.

This is what i experience:

~70% of the time i cant get past the server select menu. No hour glass shows up and it hangs for a long time before giving a "server restarting" or the "UDP" error. If i let it hang some times it gets to char select and some times it won't.

~29% of the time i get to character select after it has hung at server select for a while, but after selecting a character the game either hangs on the loading... screen infinitely or it will load into game but only partially.

~1% of the time i can load into the game with no problems. If this occurs and i logout it will not be able to repeat it. The interesting thing here is that it is NOT related to server load at all. It happens at any time of day.

This is what i've tried to fix it:

-Router firmware upgrade/downgrades.
-Port forwarding on my router.
-Fire walls (router and software) turned on/off and with exceptions added in varying combinations.
-Router completely unplugged and modem directly plugged into my computer.
-Hours searching windows update/support forums.
-Using pirates_local.ini with the TCP reroute.

So this is what i'm asking you to do after reading this. Tell me if this fits your issue. Tell me if you're on a college campus or not. What OS are you using? What is your router make and model (i doubt this is related but lets look anyways). What sort of internet connection do you use? Where do you play from in the world?

OS: Vista 64
Router: Netgear wgr614v6 latest firmware
Connection: Cable internet
Antivirus: None on at the moment

Just started getting this issue tonight. I've been playing months with no problem getting past server select, and now tonight it won't populate the list. Only thing that changed as far as I can see is Windows update installed some patches. Same router, same firewall, so can't see how it would suddenly be UDP issues.

For what it's worth:

O/S: Windows XP SP2
Router: Dynamode R-ADSL-C4-2
Firewall: ZA (free)

I'm getting the same problem as well, can't get past the server directory, for some reason it isn't loading up ever since this most recent patch.

Just one other thing to throw into the mix. I have noticed that last time this happened it was exactly the same time of day. Its around 7am here in Australia. ( I like to sneak in an hour before work )

Last time I started a thread in this section, it was the same time about the same problem.

exactly as above.
All was working well and has been for the last couple of weeks , log off for some food , come back and cannot get the server list to populate.
