You're right Minrath, it IS absurd. Which is why FLS has been working hard to get rid of the spammers. My feeling is they're feeling the heat so they've stepped up their attacks in the hopes that FLS will be overwhelmed and just give up. In any case, have you been filing support tickets for each spammer? I have. Sure, it's a pain and I am eagerly awaiting FLS's streamlined reporting tool to be added <hint hint> but they can't stop the spammers without our help. And hey, we ARE a community afterall.
Here ya go Canisnoir, just for you. http://www.burningsea.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12068 |

There is a small "ding" sound and some text in your chat box which you don't have to read. Stop acting like every other 10yo attention seeker who thinks its cool to whine about gold spammers and get over it.

back on topic. Yep i reported everyone of them but the windowing out is such a pain and you cant window out at open sea very effectively.A better report system would be ideal so /report xxxxx xxxxxxx or something to make it easier.Perhaps a /ignore that works on the whole account. My ignore list is unreal right now and every one of them are gold spammers, wich is really ******ed considering how easy it is to get gold in this game to begin with. |

It's in todays patchnotes Hannothan. When you read them (which you, of course, did since it's obviouse you want information and the dev logs and patch notes are the best places to get that info) I'm sure you noticed where /whocount was removed. Without that it's very hard for the spammers to know who to spam. Today I got the same number of spams as everyone else I spoke with. 0.

Do companies that publish MMOs ever collaborate on stopping gold spammers/farmers? I don't know much about all that stuff, but you think between SOE, Blizz, FLS, NCSOFT, etc, they could come up with a black list of IPs. I realize that could be touchy, especially in WoW where a lot of spam comes from hacked accounts, but as a problem universal to all MMOs you would think together they could find a solution. Or do they just hope its worse for the other guys?

goldspamming is a more complex issue than most might realize. IP banning is not a solution because many ISP's don't offer static IP addresses, heck, if you were to goldspam you'd surely not subscribe to a static IP so you always have a fresh one and be un-bannable. Preventing access from entire countries/region will also obviously hurt them a lot more in sales.
Until a World-wide Internet law on virtual sales can be enforceable, we're pretty much stuck. At least with domestic virtual sales you might be able to slap on lawsuits or get the IRS to threaten them and collect taxes or something, but most goldspammers who plague American MMO's are from hardcore gamers from China or Korea. If we flip the situation around in another internet-based industry heck, possibly against Korean/Chinese MMO's if there's any I'm sure some of our less scrupulous Americans would take advantage of the internet enforcement loophole as well.
