Default Pirates and Port Raiding

Hi,

Looked around and havent found my answer, please help.

I recently learnt that pirates cannot keep the ports they defeat in pvp. A few days later the port reverts and the pirates go home from the raid. I have two questions.

1) what is the benefit for pirates from taking a port?

2) Can defeated pirate ports be kept by the conquering nation?

Thank you!

1: Points. Fun. Attempts to slow / stop various economy aspects
2: Only for 3 days, then they revert

You can also build buildings at that port while we own it and you have crappy faction with that national.

When a nation takes over another nations port they get 3 points if its the first time they've conquered that port (0 points if they've already done so)

They then keep that port until somebody else takes it over. While they are in possesion of the port they get 10 points for owning that port.

Whenever a pirate takes over another nations port - they get 3 points, regardless of whether they've taken over that port before or not. They also get 10 points for holding the port - but they only hold it for 3 days - then it reverts back to the nation that had it before them.

Whenever a Nation takes over a pirate's port - they, also, only hold it for 3 days.

So pirates', in theory, advantage grows as time goes on. They dont have as big of a need to defend their port, as they will get it back in 3 days. Also, if a nation has limited resources and has to choose between defending a port from a pirate attack, and defending a port from another nation's attack - points-wise its to their advantage to defend the other nation - as they dont get that port back automatically, and they lose 10 points.

IF pirates coordinate with other nations, they should be able to take over a port w/ a weaker defense - as the nation will probably send their big guns to defend against other nations. They can also bring disposable ships to port battles and score an economic victory if they cant win the port battle (yes, the lose a similar % of their money from sinking through outfittings - but they can still sink enemy ships with captured ships and not use outfittings if they know they will sink)
