My question is why are all the OS PvP instances simply centered around the destruction of the enemy, ie your only objective is to destroy they're ship. This one dimensional way of thinking, lacks the depth to encourage varied pvp.
As its simply a race to see who can bring the most players/firepower into an area to defeat ones enemy and there is no incentive to engage when outnumbered. From the last ship game i played (StarFleet Command/Star Fleet Battles), which tried a persistent mmo like server"metaverse". There was a varied set of missions when engaged by other players, where you could have NPC allies: >Like Destroy a Fort (Starbase) >Rescue a Merchant (Freighter) >Fleet Battle >Blockade Running (Smuggle Medical Supplies) >Escape It would be interesting if open sea PvP battles, look at the fleet compositions and determined a correct mission to spawn and you could generate points for completing the mission even if you do not sink anyone!! To quote from the games manual "Combat is a means to an end, not an end in itself. It is ultimately a means to gain or maintain control of territory, or to reduce enemy forces as a means to that end. Combat involves damaging the enemy ships to the point that they withdraw (or, if they refuse to withdraw, are destroyed or captured)." >It also had a scoring system like forced to disengage 25% points, Crippled 50% points, Destroyed 100% points, Captured 150% points. |
