In the past two days I've encountered a very irritating bug. What happens is the following, when playing on my computer A :
PotBS crashes. This only happens when I'm in port, right after zoning in from an instance within the port. Now here's the kicker : when this happens I can't login AT ALL with the character that experienced the crash. Every time I try to log in with that character, the game crashes on loading. I've tried waiting so that you get the character select on the server menu instead of being logged in again automatically. This makes no difference. Even after 8 or 9 hours of waiting, same thing. Logging in to PotBS on my computer B, however, is no problem at all. If I then take my character and move her out of port, to another port or the open ocean, and then try logging in with computer A, suddenly everything works perfectly again (until the next crash, which might be hours or days away). Deleting the local PotBS cache files makes no difference. Computer A : core2duo e6600 - 3gb 800mhz ddr2 - geforce 8800gts 320 - asus p8b deluxe mobo - xfi audigy soundcard - vista x64 ultimate - latest nvidia beta drivers for PotBS Computer B : laptop - core2duo t7500 - 3gb 800mhz ddr2 - geforce 8600m gts 256 - realtek audio chip - vista x64 ultimate - latest nvidia beta drivers for PotBS (with modified files to make it install on an 8600m) Both systems are fresh installs, latest drivers for everything and blah. |

For computer A, try manually turning off Anti-Aliasing completely from within the nVidia drivers in Vista.

Head...exploding. I have no idea why that would happen, or why changing anti-aliasing would help it. Please file a support ticket and we'll check it out.

Hey Rusty,
I'm pretty sure support does know about this already, and has for some time. AFAIK it's prone to happening on certain nVidia card with a certain driver version in certain towns. nVidia drivers crash when your character's in town, and relogging doesn't help, basically you're stuck. No idea why it'd crash, I was under the assumption that AA is far removed from any game code... it just hates rendering some towns apparently. |
