Matt I feel for you. I want dueling as much as anyone but try to be patient. PoTBS is only two months old. I know it seems like an eternity, but it is only two months.

I'm not sassing you. I'm just trying to help.

Wait why the hell was this moved to Avatar Combat & Avatar Skills... This was a direct complaint to the deveolper move it back... sheesh if you took the time to move it. Give us the 2 minutes to respond.. I don't want avatar dueling ... I want ship v ship dueling...

I swear when they mentioned dueling... if its avatar based please let me know... I don't even consider the avatar part of this game as even finished content. I don't want to wait another month just to find out that the dueling they implement is for swashbuckling.

While I may not directly agree with it being moved to this other forum, the devlog I linked to does answer your questions. And then some.

I am personally on the fence after seeing this pathetic 1.2 patch
Time to jump off the fence, skirmish won't be available until 1.5, which is at least 3 months out. DEV Joe mentioned that last night.

Can I get a link about the SHIP V SHIP combat? I would like to see this. If this is true I'll head out. I have been following POTBS for quite sometime now and I just can't believe I'm finding my self close to pushing the cancel button.

The Devlog says "Duels are fairly straightforward: you and another player agree to a no risk ship fight." But they move this post to avatar forums.. lol I'm confused .. did they read this post.. i just want some clarity

Well, this blows. This system would have allowed those of us who want to learn from experienced members in our faction in PvP how to PvP, because quite frankly, our nation, as it stands, can't absorb too many more economic hits, or hits to the morale that is required to get better at PvP. You have to die a lot and lose a lot of ships.

People on the losing side will just opt to quit instead. Matt is in our guild. He wants to teach those members who want to learn to improve their skills. You don't really learn till you face live fire and actually kill or be killed.

I understand that there are possibly technical issus involved. This does not make me optimistic about the fate of the Spanish on Bonny.

I've changed my mind about my (somewhat indifferent) desire for dueling.

1. I just cant get past the RP aspect of taking a friendly's Hull to 5% a zillion times practicing.

2. With dueling, the only people who will EVER look for a fight in a red zone will be super practiced unlike a "real" novice captain who has yet to to face the "heat" of battle, the consequences and "earn their stripes."

It takes battles/risk/victory/loss to separate the men from the boys. Also, it could turn the Caribbean into a big L33tz dueling ladder. It would promote people to be the best solo pvper they could be for the ego of it rather than contribute to their nation on winning the map.

Remember FLS has designed more of an RvR world than a PvP world.

It would be fun though.

The problem with this Dueling from what I see is that it could take away from Open Sea PvP since Marks of victory would be rewarded in Skirmishes.

If it's not available with 1.3 I'll be quite dismayed.
It was thought of long before beta, long before there was any working code. It wasn't given the priority to make the game tho. Too bad, because with some training many more people would know how to PvP in this game. Yes, they might still lose, but at least they will know why and learn.

Skirmishes, the ship combat, has been pushed back to 1.5. Might even go further back, who knows. We actually had both of these in beta, but not fully fleshed out so one could issue invites and so forth.
