Default Enough is enough! Fix xebec sails!

The sails on xebec-type ships are known as lanteen sails. There is a graphical problem with all lanteen sails. All lanteen sails appear as if the wind were blowing from the starboard side of the ship, regardless of where the wind is actually coming from. This is fine when the wind is actually blowing from the starboard side, but that's only the case about 50% of the time. When running with the wind on the port side, the sails look absolutely disgusting.

I've been waiting since pre-boarding for this problem to be fixed. It drives me insane. I use xebec-type ships almost exclusively. My ship is at the center of my screen for a very large percentage of my play time. It's very distracting to see my ship's sails being displayed incorrectly. I was expecting this problem to be fixed with 1.2, since the Arcadia seemed to be getting some attention. I do appreciate the changes; however, the sails are still broken.

This problem affects the Corsair Xebec, the Corsair Mastercraft Xebec, the Corsair Sleek Xebec, the Arcadia Xebec, and the new Arcadia Mastercraft Xebec. It's a major problem affecting a large number of ships. It needs to be fixed.

So basically your major problem is small graphics glitch? Because the ship itself behaves as should?

I am not saying they should not fix it, but i do fear they got a lot bigger problems at hand.

Yes, like making the hulls on those things out of something other than balsa wood. Or is it cardboard?

While I agree it something that should be fixed, it is far from being a major issue. There must be about 50 things a lot more urgent to fix in the game... don't you agree?

No, it's a minor problem...well, not even a problem. More like a minor animation glitch.

I agree that graphical issues are less important than gameplay issues. FLS, however, has separate staff for graphics. In terms of graphical issues, this is a major graphical issue. It should be a high priority for the graphics people.

Good to see another person that understands the way they and other MMO companies do things. They almost always have separate groups for the areas of focus. Graphic, UI, Story/Missions and so forth. FLS has even stated they have different groups that work on different stuff. So why can't people post problems like this??

It's a Graphical Issue that the devs on that group should be looking into and the other groups should not even worry about. You may call it a minor issue....but it is a issue none the less and should be looked into. If you left things like this(minor issues) to do after you fixed major issues; then you would never get back to these minor issues seeing major ones are always popping up and needing to be fixed.

Yeah, in car terms software companies work like this:

Mr Mechanic, could you change my brake pads? Oh and while you're at it, change the oil and make sure my spark plugs are ok?

Mechanic: Sure thing, be done in a few hours.

****

Now, if it were a software company:

Mr Mechanic, could you change my brake pads? Oh and while you're at it, change the oil and make sure my spark plugs are ok?

Public relations goon: I'm sorry. I'm not a mechanic. However, our mechanics will begin work on it soon. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know. I'm here to help!

The PR guy then opens a ticket and submits it to the chief mechanic supervisor.

Supervisor: Ok, looks like we need to change the brakes, the oil and inspect the plugs for quality assurance. Brake pad guys, can you get this done?

Brake pad guys: Sure but it'll take a while. Those pads are an old build. It'll take extra time to recompile some new ones that fit the model we're now using as the standard. Ask the paint shop if they can do a new visual on them...otherwise they'll look just like the old ones and the cusotmer will be angry.

Paint shop guys: Ya we can do that..but we need your specs on size and what not first.

Supervisor: Ok that's done, now oil change.

Oil change intern: Oh, I can do that. Just common routine maintenance. Should take me no-time to do once you guys go home for the day. That way I can use your tools and fix it in the off-time. If there's any problems, I should still have it done before the customer wakes up tomorrow morning.

Supervisor: Good. K, spark plug test...

Quality Assurance Specialist: Yeah...I'll take a look at them..but we already have a fix on that model of plug in-testing. The new model should be ready in a couple days...so we might just want to replace them with the new model....and prolly roll them into the same upgrade with the brake pads. We can then let the intern load them all on after his oil change or something.

Supervisor: Great idea. How long til those brake pads get coded?

Brake pad guys: Uh. Depends. Do you know of any models we can use or do we have to make new ones totally? If we have to make new ones, it'll take longer.

Supervisor: No idea...probably better to make new ones. How long?

Brake pad guys: No idea. Never made new ones on this build. We'll keep you posted.

Supervisor: Ok, get started. Paint shop, you guys start working on the visual model and have it ready for when the brake pad guys are done. Quality Assurance, you guys will test the new pads once they get finished...and continue bug fixing those new spark plugs for the new build. With no unforseen problems, this should go off without a hitch.

Public relations goon: So, Mr. Supervisor, when should I tell the customer their car will be ready?

Supervisor: Well, the dev process is long, complicated...we'll do our best...*words words words etc etc etc*

To the customer, PR goon: Your car will be ready soon! Please wait! I'll update you as soon as I have more info.

** A week later **

Customer: Hi, my car doesn't stop right. Pulls to the right...something's wrong. And my acceleration is sluggish.

PR Goon: Oh ok. We'll take care of it! Please wait, we'll have it fixed soon.

Supervisor: Yeah...there was a problem with that build. Intern didn't finish the oil change and we had to push the build on without it. We were rushed for time and the installation was corrupted...I think. We'll reinstall and change the oil. Should fix the problem.

PR Goon: Ok, we have isolated the cause and are working to address it now. Thank you for your patience in this matter!
