Default Rubberbanding

Is anyone else having any issue with rubberbanding? I am on the Antigua server and it seems that for the past couple of hours I have been experiencing nothing but rubberbanding when out in the open sea and instances. However, when I'm on land (i.e., avatar mode), everything is fine. I did notice that when on land, if I hit the "L" key to check the minimap, the indicator lags behind my movements by far.

I checked my network settings and all is well. Members in the society aren't having the same problem except for one, who lives on the West Coast, while I'm in Texas.

This is perplexing, because I'd love to get in and play, however it seems that the game gods have poured putty on me and I'm stuck rotating in one place in the game world. It's quite frustrating when this happens, due to almost being sunk by a level 5 ship while at level 15 due to not being able to maneuver.

You're not the only one.

Finally was able to load up the game today and have had rubberbanding issues ever since I logged in. Frustrating as can be while doing the tutorial and can't do squat. First I'm circling, then taking damage from a ship that's over 900 away, then I'm sitting there bow first at a shoreline. All in the turorial.

Drivers are updated, 2.6 dcore processor, 2g ram, windows xp.

Interesting!

I did a search for "rubber" on the Known Issues / Troubleshooting forum (this one) and found out some intriguing information. What sparked an ever so curious cell on my brain is the talk about opening ports and routers.

I had absolutely no rubberbanding problems with the game when I was plugged in directly to the cable modem. However, just a few hours ago, I installed my Linksys Wireless-B Broadband Router, model #: BEFW1154, and that's when it started to happen.

I'm going to dig some more information about opening the ports, because right now, mine are closed. So far I have gathered some info. on a *.ini file.

I had the same thing in the tutorial and other ship missions and in open sea.

Checked my firmware, was the latest revision. So as suggested, I had to allow port forwarding on 7010-7100. So then it worked like a champ for a while, but then went back to rubberbanding and being non-responsive after a couple hours.

Hope they have fun with all the support requests about this when the game goes live.

I'm having the same problem. Only occurs during sea battle instances. Haven't tried open sea. Didn't have this trouble when I was in the beta, but now it makes the game unplayable. I am accessing cable modem through a router so if you find anything with opening ports or what not let us know. Hope this is resolved before the game goes live.

*sigh* Nobody ever reads the stickies. I'll go find it for you because I'm in a particularly nice mood, but normally I'd flame you for this. You do get a cookie for using search at least, but no chocolate chips because of the stickies.

Edit: Here you go. Read the stickies next time.

Thank you for being in such a nice mood. Normally, I would not flame somebody for this, but to each their own. Chocolate chip or not, it'll go well with some milk.

Maybe we can make a suggestion to have that stickied here under the Known Issues / Troubleshooting forum as well, since most of the players with this particular problem are posting in this forum. I now know to look under the Important Announcements forum as well.

Rubberbanding must be something SOE adds to their games, not something that needs fixed. I haven't seen rubberbanding this bad since pre-combat upgrade SWG. kidding. It must have to do with server lag. It seems to get worse during peak hours.

Just got back in game on Antigua. Major lag/rubberbanding that I've not had problems with before. was in the Miscommunication mission and nearly died as I couldnt move without 15-20sec intervals of no control response.

OS is also acting Looney, cant even move.

Default I fixed the rubberbanding by removing

my router. I have Linksys befsr41 ver 2.1 wired router and attempted to update firmware unsuccessfully. My intention is to get a new router when I figure out which works for players in game. The version I have is way outdated, and good luck figuring out how to open the bin file Lynksys claims is a zip file.

Save youself hours of frustration and non-playing by simply connecting your pc directly to your isp source by removing your router.

I will let you know which router works well when I find it.

Believe me. I had the same exact problems of a boat stuck in one spot, I also tried the ini file with command that helped briefly, but it worked beautifully when I removed the router. This is a very fun game when it works well for you.
