This thread is verbose to say the least. Guess I might as well add my 2 dbs worth... and a few paragraphs...
(please forgive me if I'm way off base, but this thread is a bit much to read in one sitting). I'm glad Mr. Lepper acknowledges that his generalizations are indeed just generalizations. I might see some merit in his arguments if I was not within a society. But as I've been within an 'alliance' society since preboarding I fail to see where the rest of the nation is being marginalized by our efforts. It would seem to me that everything we have created has been in an attempt to forge unity amongst the various groups on our server, not division. And if we have provided advice (note: not instructions) regarding port battles or general play it has been for the well being of the server/player, not the component societies of the 'alliance'. Also, just because you are in a society or within the 'alliance' does not mean that you are immune to the same outcast feelings new players feel. Within every group I think you're going to get the elitists who step outside their bounds and make some feel small and worthless. But this is usually self corrected by the group. We inevitably will only listen to someone we respect and whom we can rally behind. Therein lies the rub? Perhaps there is an unfortunate misconception that the major societies on this server are elitist and self serving... because in the beginning I think many were. But that was quickly corrected by seeing how we needed to work together and that no one society could lead the charge, not to mention many who were inconsiderate of the group were eventually ignored (and I can only assume this purging process is still going on and will always continue). This is not a matter of not listening to people who have good ideas, which has unfortunately happened at times, but of taking into account the nation to the best of our abilities. That is the role of a society and an alliance is it not? Regarding new players, I think there is a divide amongst the established players and those that are new to the game. But I feel as though that is a product of how many new players are joining (or not joining) opposed to how the 'alliance' is treating the matter. I've heard others help and have participated myself in trying to help out new players with any questions they have had. But these days are busy for a lvl 50 NO... Between grinding and assisting in operations in whatever capacity is needed (whether military, economic, or otherwise) how many hours in my day do I have to actively pursue new members?... not many. I am so glad we do have people who dedicate themselves to this though and take the time to work with low level players. I see our ranks grow daily with new player members. But I don't think I'm too far off when I say that many of us high lvl 'alliance' Brits are trying to work out our endgame (getting SOL's and maps) so that we can enjoy ourselves even more. We tend to do this within society--within the group of people we have been grinding and learning with for months. Sitting around bickering at each other hasn't proved useful so far so I don't see that working anytime soon. I'm not sure if I resolve or point out anything new here, but it's what I was thinking. |

Quitting the game? Hardly. I'm just done trying to show you exactly what you look like to the rest of us by mimicking you.
Sorry, sailor, no stuff for you. Although if you need some nicer sails, feel free to give me a hollar.

Those I could use. Send me a pm with your in-game name and price list, if possible!
